Relief Services : A Report As On 01 November 2024

Flood Relief

India: Floods in August and September caused severe damage in some parts of the country. The following centres conducted relief operations in response to the disaster:

Andhra Pradesh: Vijayawada centre distributed 1200 kg flour, 2400 kg semolina, 1200 kg pulses, 1200 litres cooking oil, 420 kg assorted spices, 1200 kg salt, 300 kg tamarind, 1800 saris, 1890 lungis and 1200 towels among 1200 families in NTR district from 16 to 30 September.


Bihar: Patna centre distributed 2000 kg chira (rice flakes), 500 kg sattu (roasted gram flour), 500 kg gram  and  500  kg  jaggery  among  1000 families  in  Patna  district  on 5 October.


Gujarat: Vadodara centre distributed 2000 notebooks among 500 students in Vadodara district from 29 September to 3 October.


Kerala: Koyilandy centre distributed 75 saris and 75 jackets among 75 families in Kozhikode district on 6 October.


Odisha: Bhubaneswar centre distributed 18 kg chira and 8 kg jaggery among 6 families and 500 saris and 400 dhotis among 500 families in Balasore district from 25 September to 10 October.


Telangana: Hyderabad centre distributed 12,500 kg rice, 500 kg flour, 500 kg pulses, 1000 litres cooking oil, 50 kg assorted spices, 500 kg salt, 500 kg sugar, 50 kg tea powder, 1000 bars of bathing soap, 1500 bars of laundry soap, 500 kg detergent powder, 500 buckets, 500 mugs, 1000 steel bowls and 1000 steel lids among 500 families in Khammam and Nalgonda districts from 20 to 23 September.


Tripura: Viveknagar centre, Agartala, distributed 630 kg rice, 126 kg pulses, 172 kg potatoes, 92 kg soya chunks, 68 litres  cooking  oil,  119 kg  salt,  154  litres  milk,  300 packets of biscuits, 220 litres drinking water, 2106 saris, 226 dhotis, 335 lungis, 1550 plastic mats, 694 mosquito nets and 1256 blankets among 3151 families in Gomati, South Tripura and West Tripura districts from 3 September to 8 October.


West Bengal:

  • Bamunmura centre distributed 2418 kg rice, 500 kg flour, 500 kg chira, 510 kg pulses, 242 kg soya chunks, 1000 kg potatoes, 512 litres cooking oil, 50 kg assorted spices, 250 kg salt, 500 kg sugar, 485 packets of biscuits, 100 kg milk powder and 2600 packets  of  ORS  among  500  families  in  North  24  Parganas district on 5 October.
  • Gourhati centre distributed 4245 kg chira, 110 kg puffed rice, 1200 kg sugar,  4830 packets of biscuits, 467 kg chanachur (a snack mix) and 814 kg milk powder among 4830 families in Hooghly district from 24 to 30 September.

  • Ichapur centre distributed 10,000 kg chira, 1000 kg sugar and 10,000 packets of biscuits among 6205 families in Hooghly and Paschim Medinipur  districts  from  20 to 26 September.
  • Kamarpukur centre distributed 8820 packets of biscuits, 6400 kg chira and 700 kg sugar among 4368 families in Hooghly district from 20 to 25 September.

  • Kasundia centre,  Howrah,  served  meals  to  3000  persons   and   distributed 1200 loaves of bread, 2255 packets of biscuits, 1350 kg chira, 875 kg puffed rice, 600 kg sugar, 134 kg milk powder, 500 litres drinking water, 1000 saris, 500 lungis and  175  dhotis among  3170 families  in  Hooghly  and  Howrah  districts   from 24 September to 28 October.

  • Malda centre distributed 640 packets  of biscuits, 1950 kg chira, 160 kg sugar, 330 kg pulses, 160 kg soya chunks and 210 kg vegetables among 645 persons in Malda district on 3 October.

  • Mekhliganj centre distributed 4000 kg rice, 800 kg pulses, 400 litres cooking oil, 160 kg assorted spices, 400 kg salt, 40 kg tea powder, 400 bars of soap, 260 blankets and 220  tarpaulins  among  840  families  in  Cooch  Behar district from 3  to  19 October.
  • Narendrapur centre distributed 3830 kg puffed rice, 958 kg pulses, 259 kg soya chunks, 5750 kg potatoes, 958 litres cooking oil, 287 kg assorted spices, 1925 kg salt, 11,833 biscuit packets, 2000 cakes, 271 kg milk powder, 1946 packets of snacks, 3816 candles and 19,150 matchboxes among 2915 families in Howrah and Paschim Medinipur districts from 22 to 30 September.
  • Saradapitha centre, Belur, distributed 4050 biscuit packets, 20,500  kg  chira,  1525 kg sugar, 122 kg milk powder and 20 kg baby food among 10,536 families in Howrah district from 22 to 29 September.
  • Sarisha centre distributed 3250 kg pulses, 950 kg chickpeas, 1980 kg soya chunks, 2544 litres cooking oil, 538 kg assorted spices, 2050 kg sugar, 1025 kg milk powder, 1880 pans, 2400 bars of bathing soap, 703 kg  detergent  powder,  3800  saris,  1900 lungis, 200 dhotis, 200 uttariyas and 2050 tarpaulins among 2407 families in Purba and Paschim Medinipur districts from 22 September to 9 October.

  • Somsar centre distributed 135 kg rice, 27 kg flour, 14 kg pulses, 60 kg puffed rice, 14 kg chira, 5 kg soya chunks, 14 litres cooking oil, 5 kg salt, 5 kg molasses, 14 kg sugar, 3 kg tea  powder,  3  kg  milk  powder,  300  cakes,  327  biscuit  packets, 270 chocolates,  500  snack  packets,  554  litres  drinking   water,   250   candles, 270 matchboxes and 27 packets of mosquito coils among 427 families in Bankura and Hooghly districts on 22 and 25 September.

  • Tamluk centre distributed 3600 kg puffed rice, 1800 kg fried chira, 900 kg fried gram, 1800 kg chanachur and 7200 packets of biscuits among 900 families in Purba and Paschim Medinipur districts from 20 to 23 September.

Bangladesh: Chittagong centre distributed 50 kg rice, 5 kg pulses, 10 kg potatoes, 5 litres cooking oil, 2 kg assorted spices, 5 kg salt and 3 kg detergent powder among 5 families, and 625 blankets among 375 families in Feni and Chittagong districts on 27 September.


Nepal: Kathmandu centre distributed 1875 kg rice among 75 families in Lalitpur district on 9 October.


TB Patients’ Relief

Assam: In continuation of its relief service among TB patients under the Nikshay Mitra initiative, Guwahati centre distributed 100 kg pulses, 100 kg soya chunks, 100 kg groundnuts and 100 litres cooking oil to 100 TB patients in Morigaon district on 21 September.

  • Deoghar: 500 saris, 400 lungis and 100 dhotis from 25 September to 5 October.
  • Guwahati: 745 saris, 86  dhotis  and  173  mosquito  nets  from  24  September  to  5 October.
  • Headquarters: 300 saris and 50 dhotis on 28 September.
  • Indore: 780 pairs of shoes and 780 pairs of socks on 25 October.

  • Jalpaiguri: 200 saris on 2 October.
  • Jhargram: 500 saris and 320 children’s garments from 29 September to 7 October.

  • Kalyani: 280 kg rice, 70 kg puffed rice, 35 kg pulses, 35 kg soya chunks, 140 kg potatoes, 28 kg semolina, 35 kg sugar,  200 packets of sweets, 60 cosmetic kits, 60 tubes of toothpaste, 60 toothbrushes, 600 saris, 31 dhotis, 20 lungis, 2 frocks, 4 T-shirts, 120 notebooks, 60 pens, 60 pencil boxes, 60 pencils, 60 erasers, 60 pencil sharpeners, 60 scales, 60  school  bags  and  60  umbrellas  from  21  September  to 20 October.

  • Kamarpukur: 1193 saris, 350  dhotis,  20  T-shirts  and  20  trousers  from  3  to  21 October.

  • Kankurgachhi, Kolkata: 218 saris, 10 dhotis and  80  children’s garments from 29 September to 1 October.

  • Kathamrita Bhavan, Kolkata: 500 saris on 21 and 22 September.
  • Madurai: 65 kg semolina, 65 kg pulses, 65 litres cooking oil, 13 kg chilli powder, 33 kg sambar powder, 33 kg tamarind, 65 kg sugar,  65 bars of bathing soap and  136 children’s garments from 21 September to 26 October.

  • Manasadwip: 4098  saris  and  841  children’s   garments   from  13  September to 1 October.

  • Nabadwip: 1250 saris, 500 lungis, 25 dhotis, 96 sets of assorted ladies’ garments and 79 sets of gents’ garments from 28 September to 8 October.

  • Naora: 4200 saris, 200 dhotis and 2920 children’s garments from 17 September to 7 October.

  • Nattarampalli: 89 kg pulses, 77 litres cooking oil, 27 kg assorted spices, 77 kg rock salt, 8 kg tea powder, 77 kg sugar and 77 bottles of hair oil on 22 October.

 

  • Pala: 140 kg rice powder, 70 kg flour, 70 kg semolina, 70 saris, 70 dhotis, 70 towels, 140 tubes of toothpaste and 70 toothbrushes on 9 September.

  • Rajarhat-Bishnupur, Kolkata:  300  saris  and  100  lungis  from  29  September  to 6 October.

  • Ramharipur: 400 food packets, 2918 saris, 10 lungis and 1336 assorted children’s garments from 29 September to 8 October.

  • Sahudangi: 1100 saris from 25 September to 2 October.
  • Salem: 40 saris, 48 lungis, 48 shirts, 6 children’s garments, 80 assorted ladies’ garments, 94 towels, 94 bars of bathing soap, 188 bars of laundry soap, 94 bottles of hair oil, 94 tubes of toothpaste, 94 toothbrushes, 94 packets of snacks and 94 packets of sweets on 5 and 6 October.
  • Shyamsayer, Bardhaman: 80 saris on 26 September.
  • Taki: 1400 saris, 175 lungis, 350 dhotis and 280 children’s garments from 26 September to 9 October.

  • Thanjavur: 20 saris and 100 assorted garments on 13 and 27 October.

  • Thirumukkudal: 12  saris,  8  dhotis,  10  frocks, 10  sets  of  children’s  garments,  8 towels and 40 packets of snacks and sweets on 27 October.

  • Viveknagar, Agartala: 1690 food packets from 22 September to 27 October.
  • Vrindavan: 200 food packets, 400 kg rice, 400 kg flour, 100 kg pulses, 100 litres cooking oil, 200 kg salt, 100 kg  sugar,  20  kg  tea  leaves,  40  kg  milk  powder, 200 packets of biscuits and 40 litres fruit juice on 2 October.

Bangladesh:

  • Bagerhat: 308 saris, 20 dhotis, 25 lungis and 70 T-shirts from 4 to 12 October.

 


  • Chandpur: 258 saris and 50 lungis from 9 to 28 October.

  • Chittagong: 900 kg rice, 150 kg pulses, 75 litres cooking oil, 225 saris and 200 assorted garments from 12 September to 6 October.
  • Dhaka: 1050 saris from 6 to 8 October.
  • Faridpur: 225 saris on 9 October.
  • Narayanganj: 300 saris and 100 assorted garments on 10 October.
  • Rangpur: 172 saris, 18 dhotis, 2 lungis and 12 assorted garments from 8 to 13 October.

Winter Relief

The following centres distributed blankets and winter garments, shown against their names, to needy people:

  • Aalo: 117 sweaters on 25 October.
  • Amarkantak: 220 blankets on 14 and 16 October.
  • Belagavi: 500 blankets on 27 October.
  • Belgharia, Kolkata: 50 blankets on 22 September.
  • Guwahati: 173 blankets on 28 September.
  • Indore: 780 sweaters and 780 woollen caps on 25 October.
  • Jalpaiguri: 200 blankets on 2 October.

Distress Rehabilitation

Chhattisgarh: Narainpur centre sunk 3 tube wells in July and August 2024 in 3 remote and tribal villages of Abujhmarh where there was an outbreak of water-borne diseases due to lack of pure drinking water.


Economic Rehabilitation

  • Kerala: Pala centre distributed 10 electric sewing machines to as many women in Kottayam district on 16 April and 29 September.
  • Tamil Nadu: Nattarampalli centre distributed 19 sewing machines to an equal number of women in Tirupattur district on 12 October.

Infrastructural Support

  • Madhya Pradesh: Indore centre distributed 4 tables, 24 chairs, 5 trunks, 32 green boards, 2 bookcases, 5 Bluetooth speaker sets, 7 almirahs, 7 ceiling fans, 2 water tanks, 177 plates and 24 tumblers among 18 schools in Khargone and Khandwa districts on  25 October.
  • Tamil Nadu: Salem centre handed over 2 wheelchairs, 14 walkers, ointment, cotton rolls and surgical bandages to 2 government rehabilitation homes on 5 and 6 October.
