On the occasion of Kisan Diwas (Farmers’ Day), December 23, 2025, a special programme was organized at the Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Morabadi, Ranchi. The event featured the live telecast of the launch of the ‘Viksit Bharat – Employment and Livelihood Guarantee Mission (Rural)’ by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Key Highlights from the Union Minister’s Address
- Recognition of Farmers: The Hon’ble Minister described farmers as the cornerstone of nation-building, stating, “Food is Brahman, and the farmer (Annadata) is the embodiment of Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh.” He credited the self-reliance of India in food grains, fruits, vegetables, and milk production to the joint efforts of farmers and scientists from ICAR, agricultural universities, and KVKs.
- Increased Budgetary Allocation: He informed that while approximately ₹88,000 crore was allocated under MGNREGA last year, the provision for the new mission has been increased to ₹1,51,282 crore this year.
- Enhanced Employment Guarantee: The guaranteed days of employment have been increased from 100 days to 125 days.
- Modern Farming Focus: The Minister emphasized promoting intercropping, advanced farming techniques for small and marginal farmers, and natural farming.
Address by Minister of State
The Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Bhagirath Choudhary, added that farmers are the true divine forms of the nation, nourishing the country despite natural calamities and continuous challenges.
Local Participation and Recognition
- Attendance: A total of 236 farmers from the Ranchi district participated in the programme at the KVK premises.
- Felicitation: In a gesture of appreciation, four progressive farmers—Shri Anup Oraon, Shri Birsa Oraon, Smt. Subama Oraon, and Suchita Kumari—were honored with Angavastram by the KVK scientists.
- Coordination: The programme was managed by Dr. Manoj Kumar Singh (Program In-charge), supported by scientists Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Dr. Bharat Mahto, Dr. Neha Rajan, Dr. Vishakha Singh, and other staff members.
