Flood Relief
India: Floods in August and September caused severe damage in some parts of the country. The following centres conducted relief operations in response to the disaster:
Gujarat:
- Limbdi centre distributed 50 kg wheat flour, 20 kg rice, 10 kg pulses, 20 kg potatoes, 20 kg onions, 10 litres cooking oil, 15 kg assorted spices, 10 kg salt, 10 kg sugar, 3 kg tea leaves, 5 kg snacks and 12 plastic sheets among 10 families in Surendranagar district on 3 September.
- Rajkot centre served meals to 800 persons and distributed 2500 food packets, 4100 snack packets and 700 biscuit packets among 2500 affected persons in Jamnagar, Junagadh and Rajkot districts from 30 August to 1 September.
- Vadodara centre served meals to 600 persons and distributed 2500 kg wheat flour, 1000 kg rice, 500 kg pulses, 500 litres cooking oil, 500 kg salt, 125 kg assorted spices, 500 kg sugar, 125 kg tea leaves and 1000 plastic containers to 500 families from 31 August to 10 Subsequently, 6006 books, 3006 notebooks, 6012 pens, 18,036 pencils, 6012 pencil sharpeners, 6012 erasers, 3006 scales and 3006 examination boards were distributed among 3006 students in Vadodara district from 11 to 26 September.
Odisha: Bhubaneswar centre distributed 5,000 kg chira (rice flakes) and 1000 kg jaggery among 2578 families in Balasore district on 24 and 25 September.
Telangana: Hyderabad centre distributed 12,500 kg rice, 500 kg wheat flour, 500 kg pulses, 1000 litres cooking oil, 50 kg assorted spices, 500 kg salt, 500 kg sugar, 50 kg tea powder, 1000 bars of bathing soap, 1500 bars of laundry soap, 500 kg detergent powder, 500 blankets, 500 bedsheets, 500 buckets and 500 mugs among 500 families in Khammam district on 10 September.
Tripura:
- Kailashahar centre distributed 8 kg chira (rice flakes), 5 kg sugar, 25 kg rice, 10 kg pulses, 25 kg potatoes, 4 kg milk powder and 70 packets of biscuits among 32 families in Unakoti district on 26 August and 14 September.
- Viveknagar centre, Agartala, distributed 4080 kg rice, 816 kg pulses, 1712 kg potatoes, 128 kg soya chunks, 403 litres cooking oil, 160 kg assorted spices, 806 kg salt, 806 kg sugar, 806 litres milk, 806 litres drinking water and 806 mosquito nets among 812 families in Gomati and South Tripura districts on 30 August and 3 September. Additionally, on 28 August, the centre set up a medical camp where 125 patients were treated and given medicines.
Uttarakhand: Dehradun centre distributed 100 gas ovens, 100 pressure cookers, 20 packets of biscuits, 5 packets of chocolates, 960 fruit cakes and 180 bananas among 100 families, and handed over 4 computer sets to a college in Tehri Garhwal district on 1 September.
West Bengal: Malda centre distributed 981 kg chira (rice flakes), 82 kg sugar, 327 packets of biscuits, 164 kg pulses, 82 kg soya chunks and 327 saris among 327 families in Malda district on 14 September.
Bangladesh:
- Bagerhat centre distributed 850 kg rice, 78 kg pulses and 340 kg potatoes among 170 families in Khulna district on 31 August.
- Chittagong centre distributed 3100 kg rice, 310 kg pulses, 620 kg potatoes, 310 litres cooking oil, 124 kg assorted spices, 310 kg salt and 155 kg detergent powder among 310 families in Chittagong district on 1 September.
- Comilla centre distributed 712 kg rice, 178 kg pulses, 356 kg potatoes, 89 litres cooking oil, 178 kg salt and 890 litres drinking water among 178 families in Lakshmipur district on 1 September.
- Dhaka centre distributed 2655 kg rice, 531 kg pulses, 1062 kg potatoes, 266 litres cooking oil, 531 kg salt, 531 litres drinking water, 2655 packets of ORS and 531 bars of soap among 531 families in Feni district on 31 August.
- Jashore centre distributed 2008 kg rice, 1004 kg chira (rice flakes), 2008 kg potatoes and 1004 packets of ORS among 502 families in Khulna district on 31 August.
TB Patients’ Relief
Assam: Under the Nikshay Mitra initiative, as part of the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan to eradicate TB, Guwahati centre distributed 150 kg pulses, 100 kg soya chunks, 100 kg groundnuts and 100 litres cooking oil to 100 TB patients in Morigaon district on 27 August.
Fire Relief
Assam: Seven families in Kamrup district were affected in a fire accident on 18 Our Guwahati centre distributed the following items to them on the following day: 14 bars of bathing soap, 4 kg detergent powder, 7 bottles of hair oil, 7 saris, 7 dhotis, 7 towels, 7 bedsheets, 7 mosquito nets, 7 tarpaulins and 7 sets of utensils [each set containing 1 kadai, 1 cooking pot (handi), 2 plates, 1 ladle, 1 peg (khunti), 2 bowls, 1 glass, 1 jug, 1 mug and 1 bucket].
Distress Relief
The following centres distributed items shown against their names to needy people:
India:
- Cooch Behar: 80 meals, 60 saris, 54 sets of school uniforms, 50 notebooks, 50 pens, 50 packets of colour pencils and 50 packets of sketch pens on 1 September.
- Cossipore, Kolkata: 90 meals, 90 plates, 80 saris, 10 dhotis and 90 bars of bathing soap on 24 July.
- Indore: 850 school bags and 850 water bottles on 30 August.
- Kalyani: 280 kg rice, 70 kg puffed rice, 35 kg pulses, 35 kg soya chunks, 140 kg potatoes, 14 kg turmeric powder, 28 kg semolina and 35 kg sugar on 15 September.
- Kasundia, Howrah: 680 saris, 300 lungis, 120 mosquito nets and 100 packets of fruit juice from 10 to 28 September.
- Kochi: 300 blankets and 100 jackets on 26 September.
- Koyilandy: 100 blankets and 100 jackets on 13 September.
- Nattarampalli: 102 kg pulses, 64 litres cooking oil, 19 kg assorted spices, 64 kg rock salt, 6 kg tea powder, 64 kg sugar and 64 bottles of hair oil on 17 September.
- Puri Mission: 500 saris from 22 to 25 September.
- Saradapitha, Belur: 1000 saris, 600 lungis, 400 dhotis and 400 uttariyas from 1 to 23Â September.
- Raipur: 500 notebooks, 500 pens, 500 pencils, 500 pencil sharpeners, 500 erasers, 500 scales and 500 school bags on 29 August.
- Viveknagar, Agartala: 1700 food packets from 19 August to 21 September.
- Vrindaban: 444 litres fruit juice, 1777 slippers and 3554 sweets from 10 August to 18 September.
Nepal: Kathmandu: 120 kg rice, 10 kg pulses and 16 litres milk were provided on 10 August and 15 September. Also, 2 gas cylinders were refilled.
South Africa:
- Durban: 320 meals, 430 kg rice, 80 kg wheat flour, 65 kg pasta, 210 kg maize meal, 310 kg pulses, 130 kg porridge, 205 litres cooking oil, 165 kg salt, 160 cans of jam, 20 bottles of peanut butter, 420 cans of tinned food, 130 litres fruit juice, 100 packets of soup, 16,600 tea bags, 150 litres milk, 200 kg sugar, 70 loaves of bread, 80 kg cake flours, 100 matchboxes, 150 bars of bathing soap, 200 bars of laundry soap and 30 tubes of toothpaste in September.
