Ramakrishna Math, Madurai, conducted a series of programmes to commemorate Universal Brotherhood Day on 11th September, marking the 132nd anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s historic address at the World’s Parliament of Religions in Chicago.
Elocution competitions were organized in five colleges of Madurai, in which 120 students participated. The first prize winners from each college were invited to the Math for the final round held on 8th September. On the same day, a short cultural programme was presented by the students of Sarada Vidyalaya. The best three performers were later awarded first, second, and third prizes at a function on 11th September.
On Universal Brotherhood Day, a Youth Convention was held at the Math, attended by about 300 students from five colleges. The programme, which ran from 10 am to 1 pm, featured speeches by Swamis, an inspiring address by Swami Bhaktivratananda of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Coimbatore, and talks by the three prize-winning students. A short Tamil film on Swami Vivekananda was also screened.
Cash prizes of ₹5000/-, ₹3000/-, and ₹2000/- were awarded to the winners of the elocution competition. The event concluded with lunch prasad served to all participants, leaving them enriched with Swamiji’s message of strength, unity, and service to humanity.
