125th Anniversary of the Ramakrishna Mission : Concluding Programme, 1 May 2023

The Concluding Programme of the 125th Anniversary of the Ramakrishna Mission, along with its Foundation Day Celebration, was held at Ramakrishna Math (Balaram Mandir), Kolkata, on Monday, 1 May 2023, starting at 3:45 pm.

Swami Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Mission on 1 May 1897 in a meeting of monastic and householder devotees of Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna Deva, held at the sacred house of Balaram Bose, presently Ramakrishna Math (Balaram Mandir), in Kolkata. True to the motto he set before the organization, “atmano mokshartham jagaddhitaya cha” (for one’s own liberation and for the welfare of the world), the Ramakrishna Mission is today well known all over India and abroad for the lofty moral and spiritual ideals it upholds and for its service to humanity – service rendered in a spirit of worship to the Lord present in all beings. The Ramakrishna Mission completed 125 years of its glorious journey last year (2022). To celebrate this significant milestone, a year-long series of programmes and service activities were launched last year at Belur Math.

Several senior monks, scholars and dignitaries shared their views on the subject “Relevance of Swami Vivekananda’s ideas in the modern age“.

The public meeting started with the chanting of Narayana Suktam. Swami Suvirananda ji, General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, delivered the Welcome Address. It was followed by the reading of the Historical Proceedings of the General Body meetings of the Ramakrishna Mission Association held on 1 and 5th May 1897.

Ananda Bose – the Governor of West Bengal, and Mamata Banerjee – the Chief Minister of West Bengal were read in the programme.
