Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Visakhapatnam annually celebrates the day 11 September, the day when Swami Vivekananda delivered the historical speech at the World Parliament of Religions, at Chicago on 11 September 1893.
On this occasion, Visakhapatnam centre conducted an Essay Writing Competition to the College Students on 11 September 2023, and the winners were awarded Cash Prizes. This year the theme of the Essay Writing Competition was ‘The Message of Swami Vivekananda, His Educational Ideas for Man-Making and Nation Building’. More than 1500 students participated from nearly 100 Colleges and Intermediate Colleges in and around Visakhapatnam.
The 1st Prize carried Rs.10,000/-, 2nd Prize Rs.6,000/-, 3rd Prize Rs.4000/- and thirteen 4th Prize Rs.2,000/- each were awarded. Sri C.M. Saikanth Varma, IAS, Commissioner of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation graced the occasion as Chief Guest and distributed the prizes. Besides the prizes all the participants were given certificates and complementary books on Swami Vivekananda.
For the last few years, complementary books and cash awards for this Essay Competition includes from the Endowment made by M/s. Balavikas of Fairfax, VA, USA.
