A one-day free medical camp was organised by Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama, Contai on Sunday, 6 September 2026, at the premises of Antyoday Anath Ashram, Pounsi — a backward area under Bhagwanpur II Block, District Purba Medinipur, West Bengal. The camp was conducted from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Medical Services Rendered
A panel of 9 specialist doctors examined and treated a total of 624 patients drawn from the surrounding areas. Of these, 334 patients belonged to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and Other Backward Community categories. The specialist consultations were distributed across five departments as follows:

In addition to clinical consultations, 82 patients availed free diagnostic services including blood sugar, thyroid, uric acid, and other relevant tests. 44 patients received ECG examinations, provided largely free of cost. 66 patients identified with cataract conditions were referred to a private hospital in Kolkata for further surgical intervention. All medicines were distributed free of charge to patients.
Supporting Staff and Volunteers
The medical panel was assisted by 10 paramedical staff members and 20 volunteers from Antyoday Anath Ashram, who contributed to the smooth conduct of the camp.
Inauguration
The camp was formally inaugurated at 10:00 a.m. by Dr. Sukumar Panigrahi, a senior physician of Contai Town, in the presence of patients, students, and local villagers. During the course of the camp, the team of specialist doctors also devoted time to creating awareness on preventive health measures among the attending patients.
Swami Mayadhishananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama, Contai, served as the co-ordinator of the entire programme.
Distress Relief Distribution
As part of distress relief activities conducted alongside the medical camp, clothing was distributed to poor and needy persons as follows:
