National Youth Day 2017 : Celebration in Branch Centres

Chennai (Math) :

January 12, the Birthday of Swami Vivekananda was celebrated as National Youth Day in a grand manner at Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai. It started with the garlanding of Swamiji’s statue, arati and offering flowers at the Vivekananda House, followed by bhajans by the students of the Vivekananda College. Sri T. Ramalingam, Senior Advocate, Madras High Court was the chief guest, and Sri M. Murali Krishna, General Manager, BSNL (S&M – CFA) was the special guest in this celebration, and delivered speech to the students. Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj, Adhyaksha, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai, gave the benedictory address. Prizes were distributed to the students.

 

 

 

 Chennai (Mission) :

The National Youth Day was celebrated by Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Chennai in all the four Schools on 12 January 2017 in a grand manner. Swamiji’s statues and photos in our schools were garlanded and flower offerings were done. Swamijis Bhajans were sung by the students and staff. Competitions were held and prizes were distributed to the winners. Swamiji’s quotations were recited and speeches on Swamijis life and message were delivered by the students and staff. In all four schools around 3600 students and staff participated in the function.

 

 

Gadadhar Ashrama :

Gadadhar Ashrama : A colorful procession had been organised by us comprising of about 2000 students from different schools and 300 devotees and admirers. A student dressed as Swamiji on a Horse Carriage. The procession with 2 bands started from Harish Park at around 7:30 a.m. and proceeded through Harish Mukherjee Road, Hazra Road, Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Road, Ashutosh Mukherjee Road and again entered Harish Park. Thereafter a programme was organised at Harish Park from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M. Swami Tadbodhananda, Adhyaksha of the centre, delivered the welcome address and thereafter Swami Sarvalokananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Narendrapur, Sri Tarun Goswami, Resident Editor, Millennium Post, The Statesman and other distinguished Guests delivered speeches on the “Life and Teachings of Swami Vivekananda” followed by a cultural programme. Few devotional songs were sung by the students of Gadadhar Ashrama (Coaching Centre). The audiences have also enjoyed student’s participation on a short extempore and a programme on ‘Musical Yoga’. Food packets were distributed along with books on Swamiji in Bengali, English and Hindi version at free of cost amongst the participants.

 

 

Gurap :

Gurap Ashrama celebrated the National Youth day starting with a procession with children, youths and devotees. Later in the Ashrama, children and devotees chanted Swamiji’s Swadesh Mantra and sang bhajans. Everyone took prasad at noon.

 

 

Jaipur :

On National Youth Day, 12th January, 2017, Ramakrishna Mission, Jaipur organised ‘Vivekananda Elocution contest’ for children of Vivekananda Balak Sangh. The contest was in Hindi and English languages. After the contest, Prize distribution ceremony was held. Chief Guest was Dr. R.K. Madhok, eminent cardiologist and Treasurer of Ramakrishna Mission, Jaipur. The programme was presided by Revered Swami Nikhilatmananda ji Maharaj, Varanasi. The first prize winners recited their speeches during prize distribution ceremony.

 

Kadapa : 
Kadapa Ashrama celebrated National Youth Day on 12th January 2016  by garlanding Swamiji’s Statues at ShilpaRamam (Municipal Corporation Cultural Centre), Singapore Town ship (A Housing Board Colony near our Ashrama ), and the Statue installed within the Mission campus. The programme was followed by conducting quiz competition for youth on Swamiji’s life and message, and on Sister Nivedita’s life and message. About four hundred students from different colleges participated. Sri A. Ramachandra Reddy, Vice Chancellor, University of Yogi Vemana, Kadapa was the chief guest, Swami Sukhatmanandaji (  Ulsoor Math ), Smt. T. Mamatha, Chief Executive Office of  District Youth affairs, were also present in the programme.

 

Kanpur : 

Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Kanpur, celebrated Swami Vivekananda’s Birth Anniversary and National Youth Day on 12 January 2017, in an impressive manner.   A mammoth Procession, extending about two kilometers long, of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya students, youth, and devotees, led by the Vidyalaya Band, went around the main areas of Kanpur with banners, placards, and songs. This was followed by a Cultural program at the Vidyalaya Auditorium. An intense and emotional patriotic fervor was created by speeches, songs, and recitations. Prizes and Scholarships were also conferred to deserving students. On invitations, monks also attended and spoke at different programs in the city and outside: In Kanpur, Vivekananda Seva Sansthan, Marwari Inter College, and Ratanlal Khatri Vidyalaya; in Kanpur Dehat, Village Barauli; in Auriya District, Vivekananda Gramudyog Mahavidyalaya; in Kannauj, Vivekananda Bhav Prachar Parishad Kendra.

In continuation of the Youth Day Celebrations, the ashrama organized a three-day National Karate Competition (of the Shotokan School) at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama from the 13 to 15 January 2017. About 300 State Champions participated in the event.

 

Katihar :  

The National Youth Day at Katihar Centre was celebrated with procession by students with Swamiji’s photograph and tableau. The Ashrama school students, and students of various other schools & colleges along with teachers, monastic members of the ashrama, devotees and the students of Gadadhar Abhyudyaya Prakalpa participated in the procession. Various speakers from different institutions delivered inspirational speeches about Swamiji’s life and teachings. Students of our school along with students from other schools performed various cultural programmes.

 

 

Koyilandy : 

Ramakrishna Math, Koyilandy had celebrated Youth Day on 12th January 2017. The celebrations comprised with procession and speech with the children and some devotees. Around hundred people attended the same.

 

 

Kochi : 

 

 Manasadwip :   
Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Manasadwip, celebrated National Youth Day on 12 January 2017. The school students started a procession in the morning with the photo and tableau of Swamiji. Later in the Ashrama, a programme was held, where students chant the Swadesh Mantra of Swamiji, sang bhajans and delivered speeches. Prizes also distributed to the students.

 

Mekhliganj : 

On 12 January 2017 (National Youth Day) Mekhliganj Ashrama arranged a procession from the school. It consists nearly 100 students, and other teachers, guardians, local devotees going round the road back to High school ground. There were students of other schools also.

 

Muzaffarpur :

National Youth Day was observed on 12 and 13 January, 2017 at our Muzaffarpur ashrama. About 300 students and 150 guests and teachers participated in the programme. The progrmme was started with Vedic Chanting and Bhajans by monastic members of the Ashrama. The Chief Guest Sri Sunil Kumar, SDM, Muzaffarpur (East), Special Guest, Sri Ranjan Kumar Mishra and Sri Purnananda Chaterjee  addressed the students with their talks on Swami Vivekananda’s life and message. Swami Bhavatmananda welcomed the guests. Students of Sunshine Prep. High School, GDMI School and DAV School presented cultural programme on Swamiji and gave talks in English, Hindi and Sanskrit. The programme concluded with the presidential speech of Prof. Ripusudan Prasad Srivastava, Formar V.C. of BN Mandal University, Madhepura.

The following day 13 January, 2017 more than 303 winner students were awarded with prizes for their best performance in various competitions held from 28 November to 29 December 2016. 5000 students from 40 educational institution participated in the programme. Swami Sukhananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Patna addressed the students. Sri Swapan Chatterjee, Purulia, Prof. Umesh Pd. Srivastava, Dept of Philosophy B.N. College, Patna addressed the students in brief. A few selected winners presented their speech, recitation and other events in Hindi, English and Sanskrit. Prof. Ripusudan Prasada Srivastava, (Formar V.C. of BN Mandal University, Madhepura) the President of the occasion and other dignitaries distributed the prizes. Swami Bhavatmananda welcomed the guest and Dr. Hazari Pd. Singh, Principal Sudarshan Central School gave vote of thanks.  Refreshment was provided to all the guests and students on both the days. Programme on both the days found a good coverage in the local Print Media.

 

 

 

Mysuru / Mysore : 

Mysuru (Mysore) : A procession of school and college students, teachers, devotees and some important citizens of Mysuru was organized. About 1200 students took part in the procession which was led by the ‘Jnana Vahini’ vehicle, carrying the image of Swamiji. A decorated chariot with the picture of Swamiji was at the other end. Band parties from different schools played during the 3 kms procession. Students held placards with Swamiji’s message. The procession started with arati to Swamiji and floral offerings by monks, devotees, teachers and student representatives of different schools, and ended in Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala. All were served juice. A short public program highlighting the life and teachings of Swamiji, recitations, speeches, group song was held. All participants were given prasad packets.

 

Naora : 

The National Youth Day was celebrated at Ramakrishna Math, Naora Community Hall on 12th January 2017.   The function started at 10 a.m. and it was attended by 800 students, monks, staff & devotees. Swami Harimayanandaji Maharaj presided over the function and delivered an uplifting speech on the influence of Swamiji on the Youth.  Swami Muktipradanandaji Maharaj, Adhyaksha, Ramakrishna Math, Naora , Swami Chidrupanandaji Maharaj,  Chief Guest  and two Special Guest Mr. Raghunath Nalui, Member of Santi Samaj, Howrah and  Mr. Samir Roy, Secretary of Santi Samaj, Howrah spoke on the relevance of National Youth Day and contribution of Swamiji on the Youth of India.  The students of RVNL Project & West Bengal Higher Education Project also performed their various activities including  lectures, recitation & devotional songs on Swami Vivekananda.  All were served tiffin and lunch.

The participant were awarded with total 1500 books, 500 photos, 500 pens, 500 note-books on Swamiji and Sister Nivedita as mementos. Study materials (Exercise books–1800 pcs., pen- 1200 pcs., pencil- 600 pcs., Eraser- 600 pcs., Sharpner – 600 pcs.)  were distributed among 300 students of different centres.

 

 

 

Porbandar : 

It was a first time in Porbandar a special programme on National Youth Day, in collaboration with Rotaract Club (Youth wing of Rotary Club) Porbandar, was held on 12 January 2017. A Run for youth was organized in the early morning at 7.30 am. There was two different routes for boys and Girls in city. Starting and ending point was chowpaty Hathi ground. Flag was given by Shri Ajay Unadkat, an eminent Indian team cricketer from Porbandar. About 1200 boys and girls from standard 10 to college, with dignitaries of Porbandar took part. After the run a special meeting was held on same ground. Special message for youth was given by all the guest and me.Short life of Swami Vivekananda book was distributed to all participants and Guest. Winners of Run were given prizes in the forms of shields and books of Swamiji. Statue of Swamiji at the Ashrama premises was garlanded by Ashram inmates. Youth wing of Porbandar BJP also garlanded the Statue of Swami Vivekananda. Shaktidayi Vichar,  and other booklets was distributed by them to business people and students.

A prize distribution ceremony was held on 12th January National Youth Day evening at 4.30pm  in connection with different competitions like elocution, speech, essay, Vichar prachar pariksha on Swami Vivekanandaji’s life etc. and ashram sports for coaching centre and GAP students was  held in ashram premises.

 

Pune : 

As a part of National Youth Day Celebrations, a two day Youth Convention ‘Enlightned Citizen’ was arranged on 14 & 15 January, 2017 at Ramakrishna Math, Pune. About 400 youths participated in the two day programme. New Year Calendar & Books were distributed to youth.

 

Rajkot :  

Rajkot Ashrama : The Programme started with lighting of lamp, Ganesh Vandana & Vedic Chanting. Swami Jnaneshananda, Swami Gaurikantananda & Swami Prabhusevananda presided over the function. Approximately 450 Students, their parents & teachers attended the programme.  Students performed various activities, such as speeches on Swami Vivekananda, Recitations in Sanskrit, Hindi & Gujarati language, etc. 3 Group songs based on the life & teachings of Swami Vivekananda were presented by the different School’s Students. Prize distribution ceremony of Swami Vivekananda Janma Jayanti Mahotsav Spardha – 2016 was also conducted on the same day & the students were awarded with various prizes in the hands of Swami Jnaneshananda, Swami Gaurikantananda & Swami Prabhusevananda. Total 119 students were awarded with the first prize and 15 Schools were awarded with the trophy shields. The Programme concluded with Swadesh Mantra and National anthem. Afterwards, book ‘Safalatana Sopano’ were distributed among the students.

 

Rajamahendravaram / Rajahmundry : 

Swami Vivekananda’s Birth Anniversary and National Youth day was celebrated by Ramakrishna Mission, Rajamahendravaram (Rajahmundry) with great reverence, zeal and enthusiasm.

Youth Rally & Garlanding of Swami Vivekananda Statue:

The celebration began at 9.00 am with a procession from the Math to the Statue of Swami Vivekananda at Vivekananda Circle Kambal Tank. Swami Kapalisanandaji Maharaj led the procession in which about 150 students, senior educationists of the town and devotees participated. Swami Vivekananda statue was profusely garlanded by devotees and guests

Clothes Distribution to Vivekananda Abhyudaya Prakalpa & Bhavi Bharatam Students:

The Children of Vivekananda Abhyudaya Prakalpa & Bhavi Bharatam ( A Nutrition programme for children of slum areas.) recited prayers and sang songs in praise of Swamiji. Clothes were distributed to the needy children.

Youth Convention:

The Ramakrishna Math, Rajamahendravaram under the banner of School of Languages, Express Yourself conducted a Youth convention on the theme “Character is established through a thousand obstacles.” Swami Kapalisanandaji Maharaj in his benedictory address asked the students to concentrate on the importance of cultivating basic values of life. The Chief Guest Prof. G. Guneshan spoke about how to a face life with courage in relationship with Swami Vivekananda. Mr. Arun asked the students to cultivate a passion for any activity they are interested in and pursue it with love and dedication. Mr. Nagi Reddy said that “Flashes”, a book of Rs.1/- of Swami Vivekananda inspired him and changed his life.

Some of old Students conduct the afternoon session. The afternoon session was lively and interactive with group discussions and presentations. About 150 delegates from different colleges participated in the event. All the participants were given Lunch and Snacks. Prizes were awarded and books were presented to all the participants.

HARMONY OF RELIGIOIN

The students of VIVEKANANDA INSTITUTE OF HUMAN EXCELLENCE  as a part of their Valedictory Function re-enacted the scene of the opening day at the Parliament of Religions  in  1893. The theme of the programme was Peace and Harmony. In  his  Benedictory Address: Swami Kapalisananda Maharaj Adhyaksha, Ramakrishna Math & Mission, Rajahmundry highlighted the importance of Service through Spirituality. He stated that Sri Ramakrishna, not only spoke about a Universal Religion, but also demonstrated that all religions have the same goal.

Ms. V H L Prasanna in the introduction described the glorious pomp and pageantry with which the procession led by  President Bonny:  B.  Rama Lakshmi  Cardinal Gibbons:P . Bala Krishna and the other dignitaries and delegates  in colorful costumes  and strange  attire walked into the Hall at 10.00am.Cardinal Gibbons declared the session open with The Lords Prayer.  The Welcome speech was presented by Ms.B. Rajeswari  and the reply by Ms.P. Sandhya Kumari .

Students presented various subjects on Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Hinduism, Jainism, Judaism, Islam, Shintoism, Taoism, Zorastrianism. Swamiji stressed the importance of cultivating a sense of peace and harmony and working to build a better society. Dr. B  Uma Bala, Principal, PRISM College, Visakhapatnam brought out the essential quality of Swami Vivekananda as a global citizen.

 

 

Tirupati : 

The National Youth Day was celebrated at Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Tirupati on 12th January 2017. The programme began by paying homage to Swami Vivekananda statue at SVIMS gate. Prominent citizens, youth and students gathered there and a procession with banners, placards of Swami Vivekananda’s sayings and sloganeering, was taken out to Ashrama premises. Swami Anupamananda addressed the gathering by describing Swami Vivekananda’s contribution for the regeneration of the country. Light refreshment was served and books on the life and message of Swami Vivekananda were distributed to all the participants. More than 100 students, youth and devotees attended the programme.

 

 

 

Visakhapatnam :

The National Youth day was celebrated by Visakhapatnam centre  with procession of youth and devotees (1600) from  old Jail road (2.5Kms) to Ashrama  with decorated statue and cutouts on open trucks starting at 8.30am. There were band troupes, traditional dances etc.  A youth rally was organized  from 10.00 to 11.20am. All the participants were given Lunch Prasad.
