The auspicious festival of Onam was celebrated with solemnity at Ramakrishna Math, Koyilandy, on Thursday, 4 September 2025.
As the legend goes, during His Vamana Avatar, Lord Vishnu granted liberation to King Mahabali, a noble ruler who had conquered the three worlds: Swarga, Martya, and Patala. Before his departure, Mahabali sought a boon to visit his people once a year, a wish that was graciously fulfilled by the Lord. The annual festival of Onam commemorates this divine event and symbolizes prosperity, devotion, and the bond between the ruler and his people.
To mark the occasion, the celebration at the Math began with Vedic mantras and recitations from the Bhagavad Gita. A teacher delivered an inspiring speech highlighting the significance and message of Onam. This was followed by vibrant cultural performances, including traditional dances by students from the fishermen community and local residents.
The program concluded with the distribution of a sumptuous meal to about 130 people, spreading joy and fellowship in the true spirit of the festival.
