In accordance with the profound philosophy of ‘Shiva Jnane Jiva Seva’ (serving humanity as an embodiment of the Divine), Ramakrishna Mission, Kalyani, integrated extensive distress relief efforts into its observance of the holy Shivaratri on 15 February 2026.
1. Matri Puja: Monthly Relief for Elderly Women
The highlight of the day was the Matri Puja, a dedicated monthly relief programme aimed at supporting elderly women in the local community.
- Spirit of Service: The distribution was carried out as an act of worship, viewing the Divine Mother in every recipient.
- Beneficiaries: 150 elderly mothers were served.
- Essential Commodities Distributed: * Food Grains: Rice, lentils, and soybeans.
- Nutritional items: Puffed rice and fresh fruits.
Additionally, at the Ashrama premises, 100 economically distressed mothers were provided with shawls and fruits to assist them with their daily needs.
2. Tribal Welfare Relief Programme
In the evening, the Mission extended its reach to the tribal communities residing in the vicinity of Kalyani. The relief was distributed as a gesture of care and compassion toward those in marginalized sectors.
- Tribal Children: Fruits were distributed among 40 children to promote health and nutrition.
- Tribal Elders: 80 elderly persons received lungis and fruits.
