On 1st of November, 2022, a small programme was organised to observe the Chavang Kut at the GAP Unit at Seloi, Upper Charhazare, Kangpokpi District, Manipur, by Ramakrishna Mission, Imphal, which was attended by GAP beneficiary students and their guardians. Cultural programmes were held by the GAP students and the speakers for the day shared their thoughts and also informed the gathering about the significance of the day, and, along with it, the need to preserve the traditions, language, culture, etc. of one’s own community and also to co-exist in peace & harmony with other communities, showing due respect to their traditions too. A simple feast was also arranged for the guardians & the students after the event.
Roughly translated, ‘Chavang’ means ‘autumn’ and Kut means ‘harvest’. Chavang Kut is one of the festivals celebrated by the tribes of Kuki-Chin-Mizo groups of Manipur on the 1st of November to honor the blessings of the deity for a good harvest every year. It also marks the end of the harvesting season.
