On the eve of the traditional Pongal festival in 2026, Ramakrishna Math, Kanchipuram, distributed “Pongal Gifts of Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi” to underprivileged families in the remotest villages of the Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu districts. The beneficiaries primarily consisted of daily wage earners from SC and ST communities.
Distribution Details:
- Pongal Kits and Vessels: Approximately 260 families across four villages received a comprehensive Pongal kit and a stainless steel vessel. Each kit contained high-quality ingredients for preparing sweet Pongal—including rice, jaggery, green gram dal, cashew nuts, and dry grapes—along with puja essentials like turmeric powder, camphor, and incense sticks, and a full sugarcane.
- Clothing and Kits: In seven additional villages, nearly 350 families were provided with quality polyester saris and lungis, along with the standard Pongal kits and sugarcane.
To ensure the gifts reached those in need, the distribution was carried out directly within the respective villages.
