On September 11, 2025, Ramakrishna Mission, Viveknagar, Agartala, observed a significant dual commemoration: the anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s historic Chicago Lecture and the Foundation Day of the Ramakrishna Mission Education Complex. The events, attended by a large gathering of students, teachers, monks, and devotees, celebrated the enduring legacy of Swami Vivekananda and the mission’s commitment to value-based education.
Commemoration of the Chicago Lecture
The day’s events commenced with a special program to honor Swami Vivekananda’s landmark address at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago on September 11, 1893. This address, which introduced the principles of Vedanta and universal tolerance to the Western world, is a cornerstone of the Ramakrishna Mission’s philosophy. The commemoration included speeches by senior monks and educators, who highlighted Swamiji’s message of harmony, self-confidence, and service to humanity. They encouraged students to embody his ideals of “Man-making and character-building education” and to work towards a unified and prosperous society. The program also featured devotional songs and recitations of excerpts from the Chicago Address, underscoring its timeless relevance.
Foundation Day of the Education Complex
The occasion also marked the Foundation Day of the Ramakrishna Mission Education Complex. The complex, which includes the Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, was inaugurated on the same date in 1990. The day celebrated the institution’s journey of over three decades in providing holistic education to students from both tribal and non-tribal communities of Tripura. The goal, as envisioned, is to foster amity, social equality, and all-round development.
The event featured cultural performances by the students, showcasing the talent nurtured at the institution. It was a moment of reflection and gratitude for the continuous support of the Ramakrishna Mission, which has been instrumental in shaping the lives of thousands of students and contributing to the educational landscape of the region.
Aviation Career Guidance Programme
In a dedicated effort to prepare students for future opportunities, a Career Guidance Programme on Aviation was arranged for the senior students of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya. The session was conducted by experts from the aviation industry, who provided insights into the diverse career paths available, including those of pilots, aircraft maintenance engineers, air traffic controllers, and airport managers.
The program was designed to inspire students and provide a clear roadmap for pursuing a career in the rapidly growing aviation sector. The speakers shared their personal experiences and answered students’ queries, demystifying the professional requirements and highlighting the skills and dedication needed to succeed. The students attended with great enthusiasm, and the session concluded with a message to “dream sky-high” and seize the opportunities of a modern career.
