Inauguration of Swami Vivekananda Statue: Kozhikode, August 2026

Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama, Kozhikode

A six-foot-high statue of Swami Vivekananda was formally inaugurated on the campus of the Ramakrishna Mission Higher Secondary School, Kozhikode, on the morning of 10 August 2026, in a ceremony that drew over three thousand students, teachers, and parents.

The function commenced at 10:00 a.m. with the resonant strains of Chenda Melam, the traditional percussion ensemble of Kerala, lending a spirit of solemnity and festivity to the occasion. The statue was unveiled by Swami Satyeshananda ji Maharaj, Assistant General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math. Twenty monks were present on the dais for the inaugural ceremony.

The statue, standing on a five-foot-high pedestal, is finished in bronze colour and was sculpted by Sri Sivan Kalligota. It is installed beneath a protective canopy and enclosed within a steel fence. Prominently displayed on three sides of the pedestal are three inspiring utterances of Swami Vivekananda, rendered in sculpture alongside their Malayalam translations:

#Saying
1“Strength is Life, Weakness is Death”
2“Unselfishness is More Paying”
3“Be Fearless, Be Fearless”

These inscriptions are intended to serve as a lasting source of strength, courage, and idealism for generations of students.

Inspiring addresses were delivered by Swami Satyeshananda ji Maharaj, Swami Mokshavratananda, and Swami Nandatmajananda. Sri Nambidi Narayanan, Councillor of the Kannancherry Ward of Kozhikode Corporation, was also present and participated in the function.

The formal programme was followed by cultural presentations, including a performance of Chakyar Koothu by Sri Madhvanand and Mohiniyattam by Sukanya, enriching the occasion with the classical arts of Kerala.

Approximately 500 students took part in the main inaugural proceedings, while the broader gathering numbered more than 3,000 persons, comprising students, teaching staff, and parents.
