National Youth Day 2026: Shillong

On 12 January 2026, the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre (VCC), Shillong, celebrated National Youth Day with great enthusiasm, marking the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The event, held at Quinton Road, was attended by a vibrant gathering of 300 youths and devotees.

The proceedings commenced at 10:30 a.m. with a floral tribute at Swamiji’s statue, followed by the National Anthem and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The occasion was graced by Shri B.K. Dey Sawian (Former DGP, Meghalaya) as the Chief Guest and Shri Wanshai Shynret (Deputy Director, NEIAH) as the Guest of Honour. Significant highlights included the release of the VCC Calendar 2026 and a ceremonial cake-cutting.

In his address, the Chief Guest highlighted the youth’s role as “machines of progress” essential to the Vikshit Bharat 2047 vision. Shri Shynret, an alumnus of the Mission, reflected on the impact of “man-making” education, while Swami Hitakamananda (Secretary, RKM Shillong) delivered a discourse on universal religion and peace. The cultural segment featured an audio-visual presentation and a powerful recitation titled “Sha ka India kaba peitmat” (To the Awakened India). The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Swami Vedeshananda, followed by lunch for all attendees.
