Relief Operations : Phoenix, South Africa, April 2026

Ramakrishna Centre of South Africa, Phoenix (and Johannesburg Sub-Centre)

The Ramakrishna Centre of South Africa, Phoenix, and its sub-centre in Johannesburg, conducted extensive relief operations during the month of April 2026. These activities were aimed at supporting underprivileged families in the Phoenix and Johannesburg areas through the distribution of essential supplies.

A total of 150 families were served during this period. The relief materials distributed are categorized as follows:

Food and Nutritional Supplies

To ensure food security for the beneficiary families, the following items were distributed:

  • Grains and Pulses: 1180 kg Rice, 93 kg Maize Meal, 25 kg Wheat Flour, 285 kg Pulses, 15 kg Pasta, 20 kg Porridge, 100 kg Macaroni, and 15 kg Soya Chunks.
  • Fresh and Processed Food: 526 kg Assorted Vegetables, 408 cans of Tinned Food, 110 loaves of Bread, 150 kg Assorted Fruit, and 1000 Cooked Meals.
  • Dairy and Beverages: 605 litres of Milk, 2 kg Milk Powder, 78 litres of Flavoured Milk, 13,600 Tea Bags, 2 litres of Coffee, and 305 litres of Fruit Juice.
  • Condiments and Staples: 170 kg Sugar, 94 kg Salt, 30 kg Assorted Spices, 4 kg Jam, 12 kg Soup Powder, and 255 litres of Cooking Oil.
  • Snacks and Confectionery: 1960 packets of Biscuits, 1750 Breakfast Cereal Sachets, 700 Cakes, 227 kg Snacks, 12 kg Sweetmeat, 250 Sweets, and 250 Chocolate Bars.

Hygiene and Personal Care

The following hygiene products were provided to promote health and sanitation:

  • Soaps: 135 bars of Bathing Soap and 35 bars of Washing Soap.
  • Dental Care: 49 tubes of Toothpaste and 60 Toothbrushes.
  • Personal Hygiene: 320 Sanitary Pads and 120 Adult Napkins.

Household Items and Bedding

Essential household commodities and bedding were distributed to improve living conditions:

  • Bedding: 10 Blankets and 15 sets of Assorted Bedding (pillows, pillowcases, and sheets).
  • Utility Items: 16 sets of Household Items (cutlery, crockery, pot sets, and cooking utensils) and 100 Matchboxes.
  • Garments: 100 pieces of Assorted Garments.

Educational and Miscellaneous Support

To assist in the empowerment of youth and community welfare:

  • Education: 7 School Bags, 300 sets of Educational Toys, Books & Stationery, and 10 Stationery Packs (containing notebooks, rulers, erasers, and pens).
  • General Welfare: 2 Prepaid Electricity Vouchers (valued at 300 ZAR each) and 20 Seed Packs to encourage local cultivation.

The relief operations were conducted in a spirit of dedicated service, adhering to the ideals of the Ramakrishna Order to serve the divinity in humanity.
