Cancer Screening Programme: Durban, April 2026

Ramakrishna Centre of South Africa, Durban

The Ramakrishna Centre of South Africa, Durban, conducted a breast cancer screening programme on 18 April 2026 at the clinic premises. This initiative was organized to address the critical need for early detection and intervention in community healthcare.

During the course of the programme, 12 patients were screened by medical professionals. Following the clinical assessments, it was determined that one patient required a further mammogram for detailed evaluation.

This programme was launched as a pilot initiative in collaboration with the ILB Breast Cancer Organisation, a private non-governmental organization. The partnership aims to bridge the gap in healthcare services, particularly for patients who face significant delays in accessing timeous radiology services within the public health sector. Given that the costs of private mammograms remain unaffordable for a large segment of the community, such delayed detections often compromise patient outcomes.

Under this initiative, the mammogram appointments are facilitated by the ILB Breast Cancer Organisation. Furthermore, should a biopsy be deemed necessary based on the mammogram results, the costs for the procedure will also be covered by the NGO until the patient’s clinical management can be formally transitioned to a public hospital.

The initiative reflects the Centre’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian service and the well-being of the local community through accessible healthcare interventions.
