A relief distribution programme was organised by Ramakrishna Mission Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House and Cultural Centre, Kolkata, to provide respite to the public from the prevailing summer heat and humidity. The initiative was undertaken for the benefit of those passing along the road in front of the Ashrama, in the vicinity of Swamiji’s Ancestral House.
Relief packages were distributed to approximately 600 persons on four days during the month — June 2, 3, 12, and 17 — with distribution conducted at midday on each occasion. Each package comprised the following items:
- One 500 ml water bottle
- One 200 ml spiced buttermilk tetra pack
- Four lozenges
- Two ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) packets
The beneficiaries included pedestrians, bus drivers and conductors, vehicle drivers, autorickshaw drivers, traffic police personnel, pushcart drivers, and cyclists passing along the road fronting the Ashrama.
The programme reflected the spirit of service to humanity central to the ideals of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda, offering practical relief to those engaged in daily labour under difficult seasonal conditions.
