On 11 September 2023, Ramakrishna Mission, Aalo, hosted a vibrant and spiritually enriching Universal Brotherhood Day function at the Ramakrishna Auditorium, commemorating Swami Vivekananda’s historic address at the Parliament of World Religions, Chicago (1893). The event was attended by around 600 students, teachers, and monks, reflecting collective reverence and enthusiasm.
The programme featured a blend of cultural and intellectual activities including elocution, extempore speeches, lectures, and devotional bhajans. Students eloquently shared their thoughts on education, service, and Swami Vivekananda’s ideals, while the extempore segment highlighted their spontaneity and clarity of thought. Teachers and monks delivered insightful lectures on the role of educators and the enduring relevance of Vivekananda’s message of universal brotherhood and spiritual awakening. The bhajans added devotional depth, creating an atmosphere of serenity and inspiration.
A special tribute segment included student recitations from Swamiji’s Chicago speech, reflecting on its contemporary significance in education and culture.
Overall, the function was a powerful reminder of the transformative role of teachers and the timeless wisdom of Swami Vivekananda, beautifully blending cultural expression, intellectual curiosity, and spiritual homage, in line with the holistic educational vision of the Ramakrishna Mission.
