Workshop on Mustard Production : Ranchi (Morabadi), May 2022

Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Morabadi


On 19th May 2022, a one-day workshop was organized at Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Morabadi, Ranchi under the joint aegis of ICAR’s Directorate of Mustard Research, Bharatpur, Rajasthan and Attari Patna, with the main objective of producing mustard in the state. The objective was to prepare an action plan for increasing the area and productivity of the crop and to take action on the work done last year.

The chief guest in the program was Dr. Anjani Kumar, Director, ICAR-ATARI Patna Bihar; Special guest Dr. P.K. Rai, Director, ICAR Directorate of Mustard Research, Bharatpur, Rajasthan, Dr. S. Sharma, Principal Scientist, DRMR Bharatpur, Rajasthan, Dr. J. Oraon, Director of Extension Education, Birsa Agricultural University, Kanke, Ranchi and other senior scientists and heads of six districts were present.

The program formally started with the lighting of the lamp and Vedic chanting. The program was presided over by Swami Bhaveshananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Morabadi, Ranchi.

Swami Bhaveshananda, while welcoming the guests, explained in detail the work being done by Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Morabadi, Ranchi. Recalling the words of Swami Vivekananda, he said that the development of the village is possible only by the villagers and every effort is being made by the organization for the all-round development of such a village, in which farmers are being linked with various agricultural enterprises to earn their income. The best ways of doing organic farming are being taught to make them self-reliant. Addressing the farmers, he talked about adding value by processing various agricultural products.

Dr. P.K. Rai talked about bringing scientific methods to the farmers in order to increase the area and productivity of mustard crop in the state and he directed the Krishi Vigyan Kendra to increase farmers’ participation in seed production for the availability of seeds at the regional level.

Along with promoting mustard crop, he talked about making processing and marketing system accessible. He informed the gathering with joy that he discusses the work done by Divyan Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ranchi in all the functions at the national level.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Anjani Kumar said that by forming Farmer Producer Group (FPO), there is a provision of financial support from the government and encouraged the farmers to collectively take the National Award.

Mustard oil manufactured by Laxmi Self Help Group, Chotkigodang, Anagada was launched in the program. This work was going on for the last four years under the guidance of Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra and oil removal machine was installed by DRMR Bharatpur in 2019 in Chhotkigodang village. Women of Self Help Groups were honoured with sprayers for their excellent work. In the program, all the Krishi Vigyan Kendras presented the works done in the DRMR project 2021-22.

40 people including scientists and farmers from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ranchi, East and West Singhbhum, Chatra, Gumla and Latehar participated in the programme.
