From 24 to 28 March 2026, Ramakrishna Math, Purnea, celebrated its historic Basanti Durga Puja, a tradition maintained since 1927. This year’s five-day observance commemorated the legacy of Revered Ramamay Maharaj, who initiated the puja at this center, and Revered Swami Gadadharanandaji Maharaj (a disciple of Mahapurush Maharaj), who served as the first Tantradharaka.
The spiritual and cultural highlights of the celebration included:
Immersion Procession: On 28 March 2026, the Pratima-Nimajjan (immersion) procession commenced at 4:00 PM, concluding at the Saura River. The procession coincided with the Ram Navami Shobhayatra, with participants from both events joining in mutual celebration for part of the route.
Participation: Approximately 30,000 devotees visited the Math over the five days for Darshan.
Prasad Distribution: Cooked Anna-bhoga prasad was served to 12,000–13,000 devotees, while fruit and sweet prasad reached an additional 5,000–6,000 people.
Youth Awards: On Maha Ashtami, winners of various inter-school and inter-college competitions organized by the Math were honored with certificates and Ramakrishna-Vivekananda literature.
