The Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, Itanagar, celebrated a significant milestone in its medical educational calendar with the organized conduct of the 39th Capping Ceremony for the first-year General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) students on Saturday, 4 April 2026. This sacred ceremony serves as a formal induction into the nursing profession, symbolizing the students’ transition into a life of dedicated service, compassion, and ethical healthcare.
Dignitaries and Guests of Honour
The event was graced by the presence of esteemed guests and monastic members:
- Chief Guest: Sri Biyuram Waghe, Hon’ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Water Resources.
- Guest of Honour: Swami Dayamurtyananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama, Kankhal.
- Special Guest: Smt. Techi Mema, Corporator, Ward No. 4, Itanagar Municipal Corporation.
Proceedings of the Ceremony
The program emphasized the spiritual and professional gravity of the nursing vocation. In their respective addresses, the dignitaries highlighted the noble role of nurses as the backbone of healthcare, stressing the values of selfless service (Seva), professionalism, and the necessity of empathy when tending to the sick.
A pivotal moment of the ceremony involved the presentation of a Memorandum to the Hon’ble Minister, Sri Biyuram Waghe. The memorandum formally sought government support for the upgradation of the existing School of Nursing from a GNM diploma level to a comprehensive B.Sc. Nursing College, aiming to further enhance the quality of medical education in the region.
Conclusion and Participation
The ceremony also recognized academic excellence, concluding with the felicitation of meritorious students through the distribution of scholarships. This was followed by a brief cultural presentation performed by the students, showcasing their talents and spirit of camaraderie.
The event saw a warm gathering of approximately 140 participants, including:
- 55 Nursing Students.
- 6 Faculty members.
- 75 Hospital staff members.
- Parents and guardians of the students.
The proceedings concluded with a sanctified lunch served to all attendees, marking the successful completion of this auspicious departmental event.
