Cleanliness Fortnight at Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ranchi

Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), under the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Morabadi, Ranchi, organized a Swachhta Pakhwada (Cleanliness Fortnight) sponsored by ICAR-ATARI Patna Zone-4.

Program Overview

  • Duration: The campaign is being observed from December 16 to December 31, 2025.
  • Scope: This initiative is part of a larger program conducted across various ICAR institutes, agricultural science centers, and universities.
  • Key Activities: The Ranchi KVK organized several awareness activities including:
    • Swachhta pledges (cleanliness oaths).
    • Waste management and “Waste to Art” initiatives.
    • Cleaning of tourist sites and local ponds.
    • Awareness campaigns to reduce single-use plastic and promote water conservation.

Leadership and Vision

Swami Bhaveshananda, Secretary of the institute, called for the fulfillment of the program’s broad objectives. He encouraged the use of new technologies for cleanliness awareness in villages and emphasized bringing the goals of the Swachh Bharat Mission to every individual. He also linked cleanliness with sustainable farming, urging the youth to:

  • Improve soil health through organic farming.
  • Increase agricultural productivity to become self-reliant.
  • Fulfill the dreams of Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi.

Expert Contributions

  • Dr. Ajit Kumar Singh (Senior Scientist, KVK): Provided the outline for the fortnight-long program and detailed the various activities involved.
  • O.P. Sharma (Agricultural Engineer): Provided farmers with detailed information on green technologies, including:
    • Maintaining village cleanliness through technical interventions.
    • Crop residue management and water conservation through mulching.
    • Compost making using waste decomposer technology and biogas production.

Impact

The program successfully raised awareness regarding cleanliness among approximately 1,500 farmers and hundreds of local youth.
