The Ramakrishna Clinic of South Africa – Durban successfully hosted a free eye testing camp in observance of World Sight Day on October 26, 2025. The event was held at the Ramakrishna Centre in Glen Anil.
The clinic provided comprehensive eye care services to 122 indigent patients who attended the camp.
Services Provided
The primary goal of the camp was to offer complete vision screening and testing. Services were provided by a dedicated team of volunteers:
- Medical Screening: To facilitate accurate vision testing, patients underwent blood glucose and blood pressure (BP) monitoring.
- Vision Testing: Patients received professional vision testing, including autorefraction.
- Personnel: Services were provided voluntarily by experienced Optometrists and Optometry university students working under supervision.
- Spectacle Provision: Optometry laboratory staff will manufacture spectacles for all qualifying patients. These spectacles are scheduled to be supplied to the patients within six weeks of the camp.
The provision of the spectacles will be fully funded by the Ramakrishna Clinic South Africa – Durban in partnership with an Optometry NGO.
Patients and staff were provided with tea and packed lunches. Additionally, the Centre distributed wellness pamphlets titled ‘Feel the Bliss’, printed in both English and isiZulu. These educational materials contain simple meditation practices aimed at assisting patients with the control of blood pressure and other general health issues.
