Ramakrishna Mission Foundation Day 2026: Koyilandy

Ramakrishna Math, Koyilandy

The 130th Foundation Day of the Ramakrishna Mission, coinciding with the auspicious observance of Bhagavan Buddha Dev Jayanti, was celebrated in a befitting manner at Ramakrishna Math, Koyilandy, on Friday, 1 May 2026. The day unfolded as a continuous and harmonious blend of devotional observances, humanitarian service, public discourse, and cultural expression.

Morning Programme

The day’s proceedings commenced in the morning with a simple puja, followed by the solemn hoisting of the Ramakrishna Mission flag. Devotees gathered to offer flowers at the feet of a portrait of Swami Vivekananda, in reverential tribute to the founder of the Ramakrishna Mission.

Humanitarian Service

In keeping with the Order’s foundational ideal of Shiva Jnane Jiva Seva — service to humanity as worship of God — sarees were distributed to 19 women, and Nara-Narayana Seva was rendered to a total of 71 persons, affirming the Ashrama’s commitment to the welfare of the underprivileged.

Evening Public Meeting

In the evening, the second phase of the celebration took the form of a public meeting, attended by approximately 150 devotees and members of the public. Three eminent speakers addressed the gathering:

  • Swami Narasimhanandaji Maharaj, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama, Kozhikode
  • Swami Avataranandaji Maharaj, Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama, Kozhikode
  • Sri Ajith Kumar, Joint Convener, Kerala Ramakrishna Mission Bhava Prachar Parishad

All three speakers offered insightful expositions on the ideals underlying the Foundation Day of the Ramakrishna Mission, while also drawing attention to the timeless teachings of Bhagavan Buddha, whose Jayanti was observed on the same day. The dual significance of the occasion was thus honoured with thoughtful reflection and inspired address.

At the conclusion of the public meeting, snacks prasadam was distributed to all those present.

Cultural Programme

Following the public meeting, a cultural programme was presented by the students of Gadadhar Abhyudaya Prakalpa (GAP), in connection with the Foundation Day celebration. The programme comprised group songs, a speech on Swami Vivekananda, dance performances, and a drama depicting the historic establishment of the Ramakrishna Mission by Swami Vivekananda — bringing to life for the assembled gathering the founding vision and sacrificial spirit that have guided the Order for 130 years.

The celebration at Ramakrishna Math, Koyilandy, thus bore testimony to the integral nature of the Ramakrishna ideal — embracing worship, service to the poor, intellectual discourse, and the arts as inseparable expressions of a single spiritual vision.
