Sri Ramakrishna Kisan Mela 2026

1. Introduction and Organization
On January 20, 2026, the Sri Ramakrishna Kisan Mela was organized in Pola Village within the Lapung Block. The event was a collective effort by the residents of surrounding villages and various local associations, including the Vivekananda Seva Sangh and Vivekananda Samaj Kalyan Sangh from Lapung, Itki, and Bero blocks.
The fair was professionally supported and sponsored by several key institutions:
- Sponsors: ICAR-Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology (IIAB), Ranchi; Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India; and the KVK Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan.
- Collaborators: Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Ranchi, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama (Ranchi), and Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI), Ranchi.
2. Technical Sessions: Kisan Goshthi
The fair commenced with a Kisan Goshthi (Farmers’ Workshop) aimed at raising awareness about modern techniques in agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry.
- Dr. Ajit Kumar Singh (Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Ranchi) provided detailed information on various KVK schemes and training programs.
- Dr. Rajesh Kumar (Scientist, Plant Protection) discussed advanced methods for crop cultivation and protection.
- Dr. Ravindra Kumar Singh (Scientist, Horticulture) shared modern techniques for fruit and vegetable farming and addressed farmers’ specific issues.
- Dr. Bharat Mahto (Scientist, Animal Husbandry) provided professional guidance on commercial goat farming, including housing and vaccination protocols.
3. Formal Inauguration and Exhibition Highlights
The formal program began with floral tributes to the Holy Trio by Swami Bhaveshanandaji, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Ranchi, and other guests. Dr. Sujay Rakshit, Director of ICAR-IIAB Ranchi, served as the Chief Guest.
The exhibition served as the main attraction, featuring high participation across various categories:
- Crop Exhibition: 156 participating farmers.
- Cottage Industry: 16 participating farmers.
- Animal and Poultry Exhibition: 13 participating farmers.
A team of scientists evaluated the exhibits, awarding 31 first prizes, 22 second prizes, and 4 consolation prizes. Informational stalls were also hosted by organizations such as Tata Cancer Hospital, John Deere Tractors, and Dhanya Seeds.
4. Key Addresses and Community Impact
Several dignitaries addressed the farmers from the stage to encourage sustainable and modern practices:
- Spiritual Foundation: Swami Bhaktishanandaji performed the Sri Ramakrishna Vachanamrita Path.
- Health and Safety: Mukul Kumar Ghosh from Tata Cancer Hospital raised awareness about cancer among the attendees.
- Innovative Farming: Progressive farmers Sri Gandura Oraon and Sri Santosh Oraon shared their techniques in organic farming, mulching, drip irrigation, and flower cultivation.
- Sustainable Living: Block Pramukh Kanchan Oraon and BDO Usha Minz encouraged the adoption of chemical-free natural farming for a healthier lifestyle.
In his presidential address, Swami Bhaveshanandaji invoked the slogan “Krishak Devo Bhava” (The Farmer is Divine). He urged participants to fulfill their duties with a spirit of service and provided a practical formula for natural farming using a mixture of cow urine and water.
5. Recognition of Excellence
To conclude the event, Sri Marshal Oraon from Shankarpur Village, Lapung Block, was honored with the Best Farmer Award for his exemplary contributions to agriculture.
