The Ramakrishna Vedanta Centre in Lusaka, Zambia, successfully conducted a one-day medical camp on June 7, 2025. The primary aim was to provide essential healthcare services to underserved Zambian communities.
Key Highlights of the Camp:
- Patient Turnout: A total of 150 patients received treatment during the camp.
- Medical Team: The camp was expertly staffed by six general specialists and one eye specialist, ensuring comprehensive consultations and diagnostic support.
- Patient Demographics: Patients traveled from three different compound (slum) areas, located within a 40-kilometer radius. This outreach highlights the camp’s significant impact in both remote and semi-urban localities.
- Transportation Support: To remove a significant barrier to access, the Centre fully covered the entire transport cost for all attending patients.
- Medical Services Provided: All medical services and medications were provided free of cost. These included:
- Diabetes screening
- Eye examinations
- Paediatric consultations
- Distribution of painkillers, multivitamins, eye drops, antibiotics, and general medications
- Bananas, apples, and water bottles were also distributed to all patients.
- Supporting Organizations: The camp was conducted with the generous support of doctors from Max Health Care and Phil Optical.
This medical camp made a meaningful contribution to community health by addressing common illnesses and increasing awareness about diabetes and eye care. The active participation of local residents and the support from partnering hospitals made the event a significant success.
