Under the inspiring theme “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat”, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Gurap celebrated National Sports Day 2026 from 28 to 30 August 2026 with a series of colourful and meaningful programmes aimed at inspiring young people to embrace sports, physical fitness, discipline and national spirit.
Youth Conference – 28 August 2026
The celebrations commenced on 28 August with a Youth Conference held at 9.00 am. The programme began with the hoisting of the National Flag, followed by the singing of the National Song and National Anthem.
The Secretary of the Ashrama delivered an inspiring address highlighting the significance of National Sports Day and the remarkable life and achievements of Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary Indian hockey player popularly known as the “Hockey Wizard”. The students were encouraged to cultivate discipline, perseverance, team spirit and a healthy outlook through participation in sports.
Approximately 110 students attended the conference.
Football Match – 29 August 2026
As part of the celebrations, a football match was organised on 29 August at 11.00 am between Rameshwarpur Sri Krishna High School and Gurap Ramanikanta Institution. The match witnessed enthusiastic participation and added a spirit of healthy competition to the celebrations.
Rameshwarpur Sri Krishna High School emerged victorious in the match.
Bicycle Rally – 30 August 2026
The concluding programme was a bicycle rally organised on 30 August. Students from different educational institutions enthusiastically participated in the rally.
The rally started from the Ashrama and proceeded through the village of Gurap, covering the surrounding areas before returning to the Ashrama. The colourful procession created awareness about the importance of physical fitness and active lifestyles while spreading the message of the National Sports Day celebrations.
A total of 100 students participated in the bicycle rally.
The three-day celebration successfully brought together students and youth through sports and related activities, conveying the message that a healthy, disciplined and energetic youth is essential for building a strong nation.
