Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama, Garbeta, celebrated National Sports Day 2026 with enthusiasm and discipline at its Vidyapith on 28 August 2026 and at its Government Primary School on 29 August 2026, commemorating the birth anniversary of legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand.
Inspired by the message, “A healthy mind resides in a healthy body,” the programme aimed to highlight the importance of physical fitness, discipline, perseverance and sportsmanship among the students.
The celebration began at 11:00 a.m. with prayers to Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda. A number of students enthusiastically participated in a yoga session.
Eminent sports personalities Shyamal Kumar Saha, former athlete and social worker, and Subham Bajpayee, Yoga and Martial Arts instructor, graced the occasion. In their motivational speeches, they emphasized the importance of games and sports in developing physical fitness, mental strength, discipline, perseverance and team spirit. Their inspiring words made a deep impression on the students.
Various sporting and recreational events, including cricket matches and musical chairs, were organized. The students participated enthusiastically, displaying excellent discipline, team spirit and sportsmanship.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by the distribution of delicious and nutritious tiffin among all the students.
The celebration successfully fostered a spirit of sportsmanship, discipline and healthy living among the students, making the occasion both meaningful and enjoyable.
