National Youth Day 2026: RKMVERI

A) National Youth Day Procession and Participation at Belur Math National Youth Day was celebrated with a vibrant morning procession starting at 8:00 AM. The contingent from RKMVERI comprised approximately 121 students, 10 teaching staff, 33 non-teaching staff, and 16 monastic members. The procession featured a beautifully decorated chariot carrying a photograph of Swami Vivekananda, accompanied by devotional singing led by the students. The march culminated at Swamiji’s Room in Belur Math. Following the procession, participants attended the central National Youth Day meeting held at the special pandal beside the main temple from 9:00 to 11:00 AM.

B) Inauguration of the 2026 Spiritual Heritage Courses Marking the auspicious occasion of National Youth Day, the 2026 session of the Spiritual Heritage Courses was inaugurated at 3:45 PM in the Abhedananda Convention Centre, Belur Math. The program featured the chanting of selected Upanishads (Katha, Mundaka, Mandukya, and Isha) by approximately 298 students and 7 monastic members. Seven Acharya monks from RKMVERI delivered brief lectures on the vital role of scriptural studies in daily life. The event concluded at 6:15 PM with the distribution of certificates to successful students from the previous session and refreshments for all attendees.

C) Seven-day Intensive Textual Workshop on the Sādhanasamuddeśa of Bhartṛhari’s Vākyapadīya (Organized as part of National Youth Day Celebrations, January 2026)

In alignment with Swami Vivekananda’s vision of Sanskrit as a tool for social empowerment and cultural strength, the Department of Sanskrit and Philosophy (School of Indian Heritage) conducted an intensive workshop from 15 to 21 January 2026. The workshop focused on the Sādhanasamuddeśa, a seminal text for the Sanskrit grammatical theory of kārakas.

Workshop Structure: The program provided a deep dive into the Helārājīya commentary through three 90-minute sessions daily. These sessions included word-by-word analysis and student presentations.

Resource Persons and Topics:

  • 15 Jan: Dr. Srimanta Bhadra (Raja Narendralal Khan Women’s College) – Kartṛkaraṇādhikāra.
  • 16–17 Jan: Dr. Priyavrata Mishra (BHU) – Karmādhikāra and theoretical positions in commentaries.
  • 19 Jan: Dr. Joydeb Dinda (L.D.S.A.S. Mahavidyalaya) – Adhikaraṇādhikāra.
  • 20–21 Jan: Dr. Gopikrishnan Reghu, Dr. Neeraj Kumar Bhargave, and Dr. Sukhdev Bhatt (RKMVERI) – Śeṣādhikāra, Sampradānādhikāra, and Apādānādhikāra.

Outcome: The workshop was highly successful, with 29 participants (postgraduate students, researchers, and faculty) maintaining 100% attendance. Participants reported significant growth in their understanding of kāraka theory and renewed motivation for advanced Sanskrit textual research.
