Skill Development Centre at the Students’ Home, Chennai, 2019


To mark the 125th Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s Chicago Addresses and as part of the Centenary Celebrations of the Ramakrishna Mission Students’ Home‘s main building, the centre has embarked on a project with financial support from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd to enhance the skill sets of the Polytechnic College Students so as to empower them for better employment options. Vivekananda-BPCL Skill Development Centre is another milestone in the sacred history of the Students’ Home.

The Skill Development Centre is a Green Building extending over 35600 sqft. has exclusive floors for training in  Automobile, Mechanical and Computer Engineering skills, besides Human Resource Development. Equipped with state of the art equipment and machineries, it will be joyous learning experience for both the teacher and the taught for several decades. The project encompasses program for training the trainers as well. A 69 KW rooftop Solar PV plant on the terrace, with dual axis tracker is installed to supply electricity to the building.
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL), for having sponsored the entire project at a cost of Rs. 15 crore under their Corporate Social Responsibility program.

The Vivekananda-BPCL Skill Development Centre was inaugurated on 1 September 2019 by Srimat Swami Gautamananda ji, Vice-President, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, in the presence of Swami Suvirananda ji, General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Sri D. Rajkumar, Chairman and Managing Director, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Sri S. Varadarajan, Former Chairman, BPCL, and Sri K. Padmakar, Director HR, BPCL.

The Inaugural Meeting was held at the Vivekananda Auditorium of the Students’ Home.

Platinum Rated Gren Building :

Platinum‘ is the highest certification level and recognized as “Global Leadership” for a new Green School Building by Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
