Universal Brotherhood Day: Chennai Math, September 2025

Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai, solemnly commemorated of Swami Vivekananda’s historic speech at the Parliament of Religions, Chicago, on 11th September 2025 through a series of inspiring events highlighting his universal message of brotherhood and harmony.

The programme began with Flower Offering, Arati, and Lighting of the Lamp, followed by a soulful Group Song by the students of M.O.P. College.

The gathering was graced by Sri Sunil Paliwal, IAS, Chairperson of Chennai Port Trust, who delivered the Chief Guest’s address, emphasizing the timeless wisdom and global relevance of Swami Vivekananda’s vision.

Br. Vānīshachaitanya, Director of the Vivekananda Cultural Centre, delivered the Introductory Address, while Swami Dhyanagamyananda, Secretary of Vivekananda College, reflected on the theme of Universal Brotherhood and its significance in fostering peace amidst diversity.

Swami Atmaghanananda ji, Senior Monk of the Math, felicitated the Chief Guest and distinguished speakers, and later delivered the Benedictory Address.

Students from Queen Mary’s College, M.O.P. Vaishnav College, Bharathi Women’s College, Guru Nanak College, and Lady Willington College delivered thought-provoking speeches, underlining the continuing relevance of the Chicago Address in today’s world.

The Vote of Thanks expressed gratitude to all participants and organizers. Following the formal programme, students visited Vivekanandar Illam, where they explored the museum and spent time in the meditation room where Swami Vivekananda stayed from 6th–14th February 1897.

The event concluded with the distribution of Prasadam. A total of 325 students and 8 faculty members from 7 colleges participated, each receiving certificates and gift books.

This commemoration not only celebrated a historic moment but also reaffirmed Swamiji’s enduring call for universal harmony, spiritual awakening, and service to humanity.
