Ramakrishna Math, Chandipur celebrated National Sports Day from 28 to 30 August 2026 in fond memory of Major Dhyan Chand.

The programme was inaugurated on the morning of 28 August with Vedic chanting and prayers to Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda. Sri Jugal Das, former national football player, addressed the students on the significance of physical fitness and character-building as taught by Swami Vivekananda.

A total of 112 students from the centre’s Free Coaching Centre and local youth participated in events held over the three days. On 29 August, competitions in Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, and Badminton were organised for boys. The nearby Bajkul Balai Chand High School also held a cycle rally and a friendly football match in the presence of a monastic member of the centre. Members of the Bhavprachar Parishad were likewise encouraged to observe the day.

The programme concluded with a tiffin distribution. The celebration inspired participants towards physical fitness, discipline, and team spirit, in the spirit of Swami Vivekananda’s words: “A strong body is necessary for a strong mind.”
