Ramakrishna Math, Dakshineswar, observed National Youth Day 2026 through a series of spiritual, cultural, and academic programs aimed at empowering the youth and supporting local students.
Ashrama Campus Program (January 12, 2026)
The celebrations commenced on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda with a morning program held at the Ashrama campus from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Youth Activities: The event opened with Sanskrit chanting by local youth, followed by a disciplined Yoga display.
- Drawing Competition: To support the community, a drawing competition was organized for 50 children from financially challenged backgrounds.
- Hospitality: The session concluded with refreshments served to all participants and devotees.
Symposium and Educational Outreach (January 13, 2026)
In collaboration with Hiralal Memorial College for Women, a symposium was held at the college campus to explore the relevance of Swami Vivekananda’s philosophy in modern education.
Inaugural Session:
- The program began with a symbolic gesture of pouring water into a plant, signifying the nurturing of nature.
- Dr. Jha led the chanting of the Shanti Mantra, followed by a welcome address from the Principal, Dr. Soma Ghosh.
- Dr. (Ms.) Mukherjee spoke on the integration of Swamiji’s teachings into character-building and education.
- Swami Ramapriyananda (Ramakrishna Math, Dakshineswar) provided words of benediction to the gathered students.
Academic Highlights: Organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) under the Professional Development Programme, the event was attended by 100 students, 15 professors, and several guardians. The symposium featured two keynote lectures:
- Ethics, Values, and Social Responsibility: Swami Ishavratananda discussed Swamiji’s perspective on leadership and nation-building.
- Academic Integrity: Dr. Adrija Chaudhuri (Barasat Government College) presented insights on duty and character in higher education.
Scholarship Distribution and Support
A significant highlight of the event was the distribution of academic scholarships to support deserving students.
- Financial Aid: 30 students were awarded scholarships.
- Sponsorship: The total scholarship fund was generously provided by Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math.
- Educational Gifts: Alongside the financial aid, each recipient received books on the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda.
The program concluded with a student-led PowerPoint presentation on the significance of National Youth Day and a session of light refreshments for all attendees.
