The National Youth Day celebrations at Ramakrishna Math, Halasuru, were marked by spiritual devotion, cultural vibrancy, and extensive community participation. The day’s events were spread across three major segments, engaging students and the public alike.


1. Morning Programme and Vivekananda Ratha Yatra

The celebrations commenced with the garlanding of Swami Vivekananda’s statue at Vivekananda Park near Halasuru Lake. This was followed by a majestic Ratha Yatra (chariot procession).

  • Procession Highlights: The Ratha, carrying a beautifully decorated portrait of Swamiji, traversed Swami Vivekananda Road and the surrounding streets of Halasuru. The procession featured traditional drums and a vibrant Yakshagana dance, which drew significant public attention.
  • Student Participation: Students marched enthusiastically, chanting slogans of strength, fearlessness, and service.
  • Public Reverence: Residents along the route welcomed the Ratha with floral offerings and traditional Rangoli in front of their homes.
  • Live Portrayal: Br. Sri Krishna Maharaj of Vijayapura enacted the role of Swami Vivekananda. Dressed in traditional attire, he moved the audience by quoting Swamiji’s messages and answering questions from the youth, leaving a lasting impression on young minds.

2. Youth Convention at the Math Campus

A spiritually elevating Youth Convention was held at the Math premises to further explore Swamiji’s teachings.

  • Inaugural: The session began with Vedic Chanting by monks and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Students of Yogeshwarananda School presented devotional songs centered on character-building and patriotism.
  • Distinguished Speakers:
    • Sri V. V. Bhaskar, IPS (Retd.), Former DGP, Karnataka: Spoke on the critical role of youth in nation-building.
    • Dr. Thomas John, Chairman, T. John Group of Institutions: Emphasized value-based education.
    • Swami Bodhaswarupanandaji Maharaj, Adhyaksha, Halasuru Math: Urged the youth to blend spirituality with selfless service.
  • Awards: The convention featured a prize distribution ceremony for winners of competitions in Elocution, Drawing, Singing, and Essay Writing.
  • Hospitality: The program concluded with a closing song by Swami Shivakripanandaji and the distribution of Prasad to approximately 550 attendees.

3. Evening Programme at KSR Railway Station (Gate No. 3)

The celebrations extended to the city’s heart at the KSR Railway Station, featuring the majestic statue of Swami Vivekananda managed by the Math.

  • Rituals: The evening began with Vedic chanting, bhajans by students of Sri Ramakrishna Vidyarthimandiram (Basavanagudi), and a formal Arati to the statue.
  • Addresses: Swami Bhargeshanandaji Maharaj and Swami Bodhaswarupanandaji spoke on Swamiji’s vision for a strong nation. A representative from the Indian Railways also graced the occasion.
  • Outreach: To conclude the day, Prasad was distributed not only to the participants but also to 150 passengers passing through the station, sharing the spirit of the celebration with the traveling public.
