Ramakrishna Mission, Malliankaranai, organized a grand celebration to mark National Youth Day on January 12, 2026. The day’s events were divided into a morning city procession and an evening awards ceremony, bringing together hundreds of students and local officials.
Morning Procession in Uthiramerur
The morning festivities commenced with a vibrant public rally designed to spread the message of Swami Vivekananda throughout the city of Uthiramerur.
- The Chariot: A tractor, carrying a decorated 10-foot portrait of Swami Vivekananda, served as the centerpiece of the procession.
- Inauguration and Guests: The rally was officially inaugurated by the Uthiramerur Inspector of Police. Other distinguished guests included the local Executive Officer and the Panchayat President.
- Participation: Approximately 400 students and 50 faculty members from various schools in and around Uthiramerur participated in the march.
- Community Engagement: Throughout the route, the students chanted Swamiji’s “inspirational capsules” (powerful quotes). In a show of local reverence, Swamiji’s photograph was decorated and displayed in front of nearly 50 shops along the procession path.
- Hospitality: Participants were provided with water and energy drinks at two stations along the route. Upon reaching the endpoint, everyone was served sweets and gifted books containing Swamiji’s teachings.
Evening Meeting and Awards Ceremony
In the evening, a formal meeting was held at the Ashrama school campus to recognize the achievements of local students.
- Competitions: Prior to National Youth Day, the Mission conducted three different types of competitions. These events saw enthusiastic participation from nearly 500 students representing seven schools in the Malliankaranai area.
- Keynote and Presiding Guest: Swami Nirmaleshanandaji Maharaj from Thirumukkudal presided over the meeting, delivering words of inspiration to the gathered youth.
