Ramakrishna Math (Yogodyan) celebrated National Youth Day on 16 January 2026 (Friday). The event, held at the Math campus in Kankurgachhi, Kolkata, saw the active participation of 386 students and 61 teachers from various educational institutions. The main program was conducted between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., following a registration period that began at 8:45 a.m..
Inaugural Sessions
The celebration commenced with the felicitation of the Chief Guest, Siddhartha Chanda, an Advocate of the Calcutta High Court. This was followed by a series of spiritual and introductory sessions:
- Vedic Chanting: Performed by the Vivekananda Balak Sangha of Ramakrishna Math (Yogodyan).
- Opening Song: Titled “Swadesh Bidesh Uchholi,” presented by Kankurgachi Shrutiniketan.
- Welcome Address: Delivered by Swami Prajneshanandaji Maharaj of Ramakrishna Math (Yogodyan).
- Collective Oath: Students from Deshbandhu Vidyapith led the assembly in reciting the “Swadesh Mantra”.
Cultural and Educational Highlights
The program featured a diverse array of performances by students from numerous schools, focusing on the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda:
- Recitations: Students performed a group recitation of “Vivekananda Suprabhatam” and English renditions of Swamiji’s poems and lectures, including “Why We Disagree” and “Hold on Yet a While, Brave Heart”.
- Music and Drama: The event included group songs such as “Ke Tumi Bajale” and “Jai Vivekananda Sanyasibir,” along with an audio drama titled “Buddha Hriday Vivekananda” performed by Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Sister Nivedita Girls’ School.
- Yoga and Instruments: Srijani Kala Kendra presented a Group Yoga session accompanied by aerobics and live instruments. A separate instrumental performance was also given by Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir.
- Keynote Address: The Chief Guest, Siddhartha Chanda, delivered an inspiring speech to the gathered youth.
Conclusion
The program reached its conclusion with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Rev. Swami Vimalatmanandaji Maharaj, Adhyaksha of Ramakrishna Math (Yogodyan). After a closing chorus titled “Jai Vireshwar Viveka Bhaskar” by A.I.W.C Buniadi Bidyapith Girls’ School, the event concluded with the distribution of Prasad to all 447 participants.
