Ramakrishna Math, Kanchipuram, celebrated National Sports Day with enthusiasm and team spirit on 30 August 2026 (Sunday) by organizing a volleyball tournament on the Math campus.
The sporting event brought together five teams comprising 36 boys, including substitutes. The matches were played with great enthusiasm and competitive spirit. In all, the teams played 13 rounds, displaying teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. The top three teams were awarded prizes for their commendable performance.
As the event had been organized at short notice, the winning teams were presented with token prizes on the occasion. It was announced that they would be suitably rewarded with more substantial prizes during the forthcoming Annual Hostel Day.
The volleyball tournament was followed by a brief meeting at the Math Auditorium. Sri Kanchi Prakash, an active youth member of the Ashram and a young officer in the Tamil Nadu Government’s Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, addressed the gathering. He explained the importance and significance of observing National Sports Day on the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary Indian hockey player whose outstanding contribution to Indian sports has made him an enduring symbol of excellence and dedication.
The meeting was presided over by Swami Sarvapalananda, Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Coimbatore. He distributed the prizes to the winning teams and encouraged the participants to cultivate physical fitness, discipline, teamwork and a spirit of healthy competition.
The programme concluded on a joyous note with a grand dinner for all the participants and guests. Traditional delicacies, including vadai and payasam, added to the festive spirit of the occasion.
The celebration thus combined physical fitness, sportsmanship, fellowship and the values of discipline and teamwork, making the observance of National Sports Day a memorable occasion for the young participants of Ramakrishna Math, Kanchipuram.
