To fulfill the demand of modern era and provide chemical free healthy food to people, various programs for the promotion of organic farming were started by the institution 12 years ago.

Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Education and Research Institute conducted various types of successful researches on organic farming in collaboration with Divyayan, KrishiVigyan Kendra, Ranchi.

Divyayan KVK farm was transferred fully into an organic farm by adopting scientific technology with traditional organic farming in the year 2015-16. After this transformation a huge number of training programmes were organized by KVK on low cost local resource based organic farming. 1200 farmers were trained under these training programme.

In the last three years KVK has organized Regional and Central Kisan Mela on the theme of low cost and climate resilient organic farming for popularization and dissemination of technologies. The technologies were also disseminated by KVK through Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) and On Farm Trials (OFTs), training, kisangosthi, farmers fare, farmer’s scientist interaction etc from last three years.

In this chain of work, one village Dhurleta, under Angara block of Ranchi district was selected to be developed as a Fully Certified Organic Village with marketing linkage under NABARD, Ranchi sponsored Organic Cluster Development Programme in 2016. Two neighboring villages namely Budhakocha and Piprabera were also selected under Organic Cluster development Programme with financial support of NABARD, Ranchi and KVK- Tribal Sub Plan. Under this programme KVK conducted Awareness programme initially at village level. After that a five day training programme was conducted at KVK campus.

After the completion of training, permanent basic structures for organic farming was constructed in projected villages. 95 units of NADEP compost, 101 vermi compost units and 91 cemented cow floor for collection of cow urine were constructed for all the beneficiaries. 910 plastic drums were distributed among all the beneficiaries for preparation of liquid manure and 2838 plants of Neem, Karanj, Taprosia, Glyricidia, Subabool etc. were also distributed for development of agro forestry model in selected villages.

Sesbania as green manuring crop was cultivated before the main crop for improving soil health. After implementation of all activities, the three villages namely Dhurleta(revenue village), Budhakocha and Piprabera (tolas of two villages) are now fully NCOF-PGS India organic certified Organic Village.

Currently 91 farmers of these villages are growing organic crops on their 177 acre of land. KVK established linkage between these producers and organic buyers like Nature Cart for their sale of produces from their plot itself at reasonably better price. Now they are getting premium price for their organic produces. Due to successful linkages with market their produce is directly picked up from the villages and they get ample amount of time for farming.

There are three major benefits to the organic grower,  50% drop in input cost, increase crop productivity and 10 – 20 %  higher price of organic produces.

Divyayan KVK played an important role in the transformation of fully self sustainable local resource based organic villages with the help of NABARD, Ranchi, State Govt., KVK- Tribal Sub Plan and Nature Cart. Now KVK is moving forward with the objective of Healthy Society with Healthy People having Healthy Mind through the development of healthy soil and poison free nutritious food .

This first organic village in the state will act as beacon light to achieve the goal of State Govt. ‘for making Jharkhand fully organic state by 2028’ and the dream of Honorable Prime Minister of our country ‘Doubling the farmer’s Income by 2022’, the Jharkhand state .

New means of food production should be our first and foremost goal.
