A 60-day skill development training programme for retiring soldiers, sponsored by the Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR), was formally inaugurated on 4 May 2026 at the Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Ranchi-Morabadi.
The programme was formally commenced through the lighting of the traditional lamp and the chanting of Vedic mantras. The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Swami Bhaveshananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Ranchi-Morabadi. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Smt. Deepmala Ghosh, CMD, NABARD, and the Distinguished Guest was Col. S. P. Gupta (Retd.), Deputy Director, Directorate of Sainik Welfare.
Dr. Manoj Kumar Singh, Scientist (Agronomy), extended a warm welcome to all the guests and participants assembled for the occasion.
Dr. Bharat Mahato, Scientist (Animal Husbandry), delivered a focused presentation on scientific practices in livestock rearing, encompassing the proper care and management of animals, disease prevention, and the commercialisation of animal husbandry as a viable livelihood. He encouraged the participants to explore income generation through livestock-related enterprises.
In his address, the Distinguished Guest, Col. S. P. Gupta (Retd.), guided the trainees on how to effectively utilise the knowledge gained through this programme after their retirement from military service, emphasising its practical application in civilian life.
Smt. Deepmala Ghosh, CMD, NABARD, speaking as Chief Guest, encouraged the retiring soldiers to thoroughly learn the skills imparted during the training — particularly in the areas of livestock disease management and fodder management — and to become resource persons for their communities. She further informed participants that NABARD’s institutional support is available to those who wish to pursue entrepreneurship in this domain.
Swami Bhaveshananda, in his presidential address, spoke on three forms of education: scholastic education, vocational education, and moral education, noting that it is the combination of all three that enables one to resolve the challenges of life. He exhorted the trainees to imbibe and live by Swami Vivekananda’s clarion call of “Be and Make” (Bano aur Banao), urging them to strive to be educated, self-reliant, and organised.
As part of the programme, copies of Swami Vivekananda’s inspirational book Naya Bharat Gado (Build a New India), along with products made from millets and jute bags, were distributed among the participants.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Ravindra Kumar Singh, Scientist (Horticulture), Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
