In response to the nationwide initiative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, and in accordance with the circular received from Belur Math, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Chennai observed National Sports Day 2026 under the theme “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat” through a three-day programme held from 28 to 30 August 2026 across its school campuses and ashrama premises.
On 28 August, football matches were held at the RKM (Matric and Main) Higher Secondary Schools, with around 150 students, teachers, and staff participating. A cricket match was also organised at the school ground on G.N. Chetty Road, drawing approximately 150 participants from among the youth and general public. Both events included the “Fit India Pledge.”
On 29 August, a combined School Day and Sports Day was celebrated at Ramakrishna Mission Higher Secondary School (South). The programme was presided over by Sri Gopi Shankar (Special Monitor, National Human Rights Commission, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India) as Chief Guest. Swami Guruvarananda delivered the welcome address and led participants in the “Fit India Pledge.” Swami Padmasthananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Chennai, delivered the benedictory address. The cultural programme featured a range of activities including a Holy Trinity drama, Villupattu, Silambattam, Sivathandavam, yogasanas, and a mime on drug awareness, among others. Approximately 800 students and their parents attended the event.
On 30 August, a special sports meet was organised for approximately 50 hostel boys at the ashrama premises, with activities including volleyball, football, and shuttle.
