Ramakrishna Mission, Vijayawada, a sub-centre of Ramakrishna Mission, Sitanagaram, observed National Sports Day 2026 over three days, from 28 to 30 August 2026, at Ramakrishna Mission High School, Sitanagaram, in accordance with the nationwide campaign guidelines. The celebration was organised with the twin aims of fostering physical fitness and inculcating the values of discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship among students. A total of 447 students engaged in the various events, both as active participants and as spectators.
28–29 August 2026: Tournaments, Traditional Games, and Athletics
The first two days were devoted to a diverse array of sporting competitions. Inter-house Handball and Football tournaments were conducted on the school grounds, underscoring the values of endurance, swift reflexes, and collective effort. Kabaddi and Kho-Kho competitions, drawn from India’s rich tradition of indigenous games, called upon students to demonstrate agility, stamina, and tactical thinking. A 100-metre Running Race and a Lemon-and-Spoon Race rounded out the programme, offering opportunities to develop speed, balance, and concentration in a spirit of wholesome competition.
30 August 2026: Grand Cycling Rally
The celebrations culminated on 30 August with a Grand Cycling Rally in which 300 students of Classes VIII, IX, and X participated. The rally served as an occasion to promote cardiovascular fitness, environmental consciousness, and responsible road safety practices.
The event was officially inaugurated and the cycling rally flagged off by Swami Shitikanthananda, Assistant Secretary, in the presence of Swami Dasharathananda and Swami Jnanarkananda.
Morning Assembly Address
During a special morning assembly, Swami Shitikanthananda addressed the student body. He paid tribute to the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary, reflecting on his exemplary dedication and patriotism. Drawing upon the teachings of Swami Vivekananda, he elaborated on the ideal of developing “muscles of iron and nerves of steel” through sustained physical culture and moral courage. Students were encouraged to make sports, yoga, and daily physical exercise an abiding part of their lives, and to embody the spirit of true sportsmanship in all endeavours.
