Rehabilitation of Leprosy Cured but Deformed Persons: Chennai Math, August 2025

Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai

Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai has been implementing Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) services for the past 37 years in association with the Health Department of Tamil Nadu. This initiative has significantly reduced stigma and encouraged voluntary reporting of new cases. So far, 2,521 patients have benefitted.

The CBR services aim to restore the dignity and self-esteem of affected individuals and reintegrate them into the community.

Every year, the Math conducts a festival in connection with Swami Ramakrishnanandaji’s Jayanthi to provide assistance to LDCP beneficiaries and to honour volunteers who have rendered outstanding services in the LDCP department. This year, the programme was held on Saturday, 30 August 2025, in the Math campus. A total of 34 beneficiaries received assistance, and four outstanding service providers were felicitated with awards.

The Director of Medical Services & Rural Health Services, the Director of Public Health & Preventive Medicine, and the Additional Director of Medical & Rural Health Services graced the occasion as Chief and Special Guests. The session concluded with a benedictory address.
