Flood Relief

(i) Jammu and Kashmir: Heavy rainfall and cloudbursts triggered devastating flash floods and landslides across several regions of Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in significant loss of life and property. In response, Jammu centre distributed ration kits among 200 families in Jammu district from 30 August to 4 September. Each kit contained 10 kg rice, 5 kg flour, 5 kg pulses, 5 kg potatoes, 250 g soya chunks, 2 litres cooking oil, 2 kg salt, 600 g assorted spices, 1 kg sugar, 2 bars of bathing soap and 1 kg detergent powder.
(ii) Telangana: Floods caused by heavy rains wreaked havoc in some parts of Telangana in September. In the wake of the calamity, Hyderabad centre distributed 16,718 kg rice, 643 kg flour, 643 kg pulses, 643 kg soya chunks, 1286 litres cooking oil, 354 kg spices, 643 kg salt, 643 kg sugar, 1286 bars of bathing soap, 1929 bars of laundry soap, 643 kg detergent powder, 643 bedsheets, 643 blankets, 643 buckets, 643 mugs and 643 utensil sets (each set containing 2 cooking pots with lids and ladles) among 643 families in Kamareddy district from 8 to 13 September.
Distress Relief
The headquarters and the following centres distributed various items to needy people, as detailed below:
- Asansol: 2792 saris and 2792 packets of sweets on 21 September.
- Bamunmura, Kolkata: 200 saris on 7 September.
- Cooch Behar: 80 meals, 62 packets of chocolate wafers, 62 bars of bathing soap, 62 packets of detergent powder, 62 tubes of toothpaste, 62 bottles of hair oil, 4 saris, 58 sets of school uniforms, 60 notebooks, 30 pens, 30 pencils, 30 pencil sharpeners, 30 erasers, 25 colour pencils, 10 art papers and a whiteboard with a marker on 7 September.
- Cossipore, Kolkata: 500 saris and 300 lungis from 11 to 18 September.
- Dakshineshwar, Kolkata: 300 saris, 50 lungis, 50 dhotis and 50 uttariyas from 23 August to 16 September.
- Deoghar: 600 saris, 400 lungis, 100 dhotis and 100 uttariyas from 19 to 22 September.
- Headquarters: 200 saris, 50 dhotis and 70 lungis on 20 September.
- Jalpaiguri: 100 saris on 17 September.
- Kamarpukur: 1960 saris and 200 lungis from 8 to 16 September.
- Kankurgachhi, Kolkata: 153 saris, 52 children’s garments, 55 shawls and 55 plates on 15 and 20 September.
- Koyilandy: 48 saris and 48 dhotis on 21 September.
- Limbdi: 465 kg wheat in August.
- Madurai: Provision kits to 54 eye patients on 23 September. Each kit contained 1 kg semolina, 1 kg pulses, 1 litre cooking oil, 200 g chilli powder, 500 g sambar powder, 500 g tamarind, 1 kg sugar and a bar of bathing soap.
- Malda: 125 kg rice and 250 kg potatoes from 3 to 31 August.
- Mumbai: Ration and hygiene kits to 59 cancer patients from 2 August to 20 September. Each kit contained 2 kg rice, 2 kg flour, 1 kg pulses, 250 g soya chunks, 1 litre cooking oil, 500 g assorted spices, 500 g salt, 2 packets of biscuits, 1 bar of bathing soap and 80 g detergent powder.
- Porbandar: 90 pairs of garments on 25 September.
- Puri Mission: 300 saris from 21 to 24 September.
- Raiganj: 350 saris from 3 to 8 September.
- Rajarhat–Bishnupur, Kolkata: 380 saris, 100 lungis and 45 children’s garments from 14 to 24 September.
- Sahudangi: 900 saris in September.
- Saradapitha, Belur: 700 saris, 400 lungis, 400 dhotis and 400 uttariyas from 28 August to 15 September.
- Sinthi (Beni Pal Udyan), Kolkata: 300 saris and 32 children’s garments from 1 to 20 September.
- Sribhumi (Karimganj): 606 kg pulses, 1212 kg potatoes, 303 kg soya chunks, 606 saris, 606 bedsheets and 1212 bars of bathing soap on 21 September.
- Tamluk: 300 saris from 2 to 10 September.
- Vadodara: 320 kg flour, 140 kg rice, 100 kg pulses, 50 litres cooking oil, 6 kg assorted spices, 20 kg salt, 60 kg sugar, 15 kg tea powder and 20 bars of bathing soap on 7 and 9 September.
- Varanasi Home of Service: 239 kg dalia (wheat groats), 40 kg chira (rice flakes), 18 kg gram, 5 kg groundnuts, 8 litres cooking oil, 64 litres milk, 3 kg malt drink mix, 37 kg dry fruits, 88 packets of biscuits, 14.5 kg sweets, 94 bars of bathing soap and 90 bottles of hair oil from 1 to 28 August.

Economic Rehabilitation

Tamil Nadu: Thanjavur Math provided two pushcarts to fruit vendors from the low-income group on 28 August to help them earn their livelihood.
Storm Rehabilitation
West Bengal: Heavy rainfall and storms in June caused damage to several houses in Bankura district. In the wake of the calamity, Ramharipur centre provided 106 asbestos sheets, 39 kg matka (ridge covers), 84 chalkath (wood for shed) and 980 cubic feet battam (wooden sticks) to 8 affected families from 22 to 24 June to help them repair the roofs of their houses.
