Summer Relief

The following centres distributed refreshing drinks and other items to thirsty passers-by, as detailed below:

Bhubaneswar: 6900 litres refreshing drinks from 1 to 31 May.

Chennai Mission Ashrama: 24,048 litres buttermilk from 1 to 31 May.

Chennai Students’ Home: 33,000 glasses of buttermilk from 1 May to 2 June.

Cuttack: 92,600 glasses of buttermilk and 1,68,100 glasses of ORS and energy drinks from 15 April to 13 June.

Gwalior: 3500 glasses of buttermilk from 28 May to 5 June.

Hatamuniguda: 27,600 glasses of lemonade, 282 litres fruit juice and 404 sachets of ORS from 1 April to 15 June.

Raipur: 4000 glasses of buttermilk from 21 May to 2 June.

Rajkot: 12,000 litres buttermilk from 9 April to 7 June.

Salem: 4040 litres buttermilk from 1 to 31 May.

Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House, Kolkata: 600 packets of buttermilk, 300 litres drinking water, 1200 packets of ORS and 2400 lozenges from 2 to 17 June.

Distress Relief

The following centres distributed various items to needy people, as detailed below:

India:

Coimbatore Mission: 106 kg nutrition powder from 10 May to 14 June.

Kalyani: 320 kg rice, 40 kg dalia (wheat groat), 80 kg muri (puffed rice), 40 kg pulses, 160 kg potatoes and 40 kg soya chunks on 21 June.

Krishnanagar: 460 meals, 100 kg fruits, 106 packets of biscuits, 10.6 kg milk powder, 106 bottles of hair oil, 106 bottles of body oil, 106 tubes of toothpaste, 106 toothbrushes, 106 tongue cleaners, 106 nail clippers, 106 bars of toilet soap and 26.5 kg detergent powder from 15 April to 19 June.

Kuralbhanga: 12 ration kits from April to June. Each kit contained 1 kg flour, 1 litre cooking oil, 1 kg salt, 1 kg sugar, 100 g tea powder, 200 g milk powder, a bar of bathing soap and 500 g detergent powder.

Limbdi: 10 kg rice, 14 kg pulses, 18 kg potatoes, 18 kg onions, 10 litres cooking oil, 4.75 kg assorted spices, 9 kg salt, 9 kg sugar, 2.25 kg tea powder, 4 packets of biscuits and 1 kg snacks in April and May.

Malda: 150 kg rice, 550 kg potatoes, 10 kg soya chunks, 10 kg pulses, 10 kg sugar and 16 kg sattu (roasted gram flour) from 3 to 31 May.

Salem: 150 kg chira (rice flakes), 200 kg ragi flour, 500 kg pulses, 50 kg dates and 100 kg fried gram on 20 June.

Thanjavur: 200 meals on 14 June.

Thirumukkudal: 145 provision kits on 13 June. Each kit contained 5 kg rice, 1.75 kg pulses, 500 ml cooking oil, 400 g ground spices, 1 kg salt, a bar of bathing soap, and a bar of laundry soap. In addition, 900 diapers were distributed on the same day.

Vadodara: 280 kg flour, 120 kg rice, 50 kg pulsess, 30 litres cooking oil, 40 kg salt, 10 kg assorted spices, 40 kg sugar, 10 kg tea powder and 20 bars of bathing soap on 6 and 15 June.

Viveknagar, Agartala: (a) 1950 food packets from 23 May to 22 June. (b) 310 ration kits from April to June. Each kit contained 5 kg rice, 1 kg pulses, 1 kg puffed rice, 500 ml cooking oil, 400 g ground spices, 1 kg salt, 1 kg sugar, 250 g tea powder, 1 kg milk powder, 500 g detergent powder, a bottle of hair oil and a tube of toothpaste.

Sri Lanka: The Batticaloa sub-centre of Colombo branch distributed 4437 notebooks from 1 to 22 June.

Distress Rehabilitation

India: Tamil Nadu: Thanjavur centre (a) repaired the roof of a house in Ranipet on 20 June, and (b) renovated the house of a poor lady in Pranthai village, Thanjavur, on 26 June.

Bangladesh: To address the scarcity of fresh water in the saline region of Hatiardanga, Bagerhat centre distributed 10 rainwater harvesting tanks (500-litre capacity each) in Khulna on 22 May.

Economic Rehabilitation

West Bengal:

(a) Antpur Math distributed 5 van rickshaws to as many needy people on 31 May.

(b) Sikra Kulingram centre provided a sewing machine to a needy woman on 10 June.
