COVID-19 Pandemic Relief Services : A Brief Report as on 01 May 2020


In the wake of the global pandemic caused by the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the ensuing lockdown in India and abroad, there has been a severe disruption in normal day to day activities. The Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission have initiated relief services in different parts of the world to meet the pressing need of the afflicted, especially the poor and needy, through a number of its branch centres as detailed below:

Visakhapatnam: The centre distributed 8950 kg rice, 636 kg pulses, 1522 kg potatoes, 72 kg onions, 2790 kg other vegetables, 800 packets of biscuits, 236 kg tamarind, 115 kg assorted spices, 700 kg salt, 736 litres cooking oil, 700 water bottles, 800 packets of health drink, 800 hand sanitizer bottles, 200 gloves, 50 face masks, 400 packets of dishwashing powder and 400 bars of soap among 1756 families in Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam districts from 29 March to 26 April.

Karimganj: The centre distributed 11,803 kg rice, 400 kg flour, 2910 kg pulses, 5904 kg potatoes, 3007 kg salt, 230 litres cooking oil, 5237 packets of biscuits, 3703 face masks and 4991 bars of soap among 3009 families in Karimganj district from 31 March to 25 April.

Silchar: The centre distributed 10,000 kg rice, 2000 kg pulses, 4000 kg potatoes, 2000 kg salt, 400 litres cooking oil and 2000 bars of soap among 2000 families in Cachar district from 4 to 10 April.

Muzaffarpur: The centre organized an Online Essay Competition on Coronavirus, Our Responsibility towards Prevention and Cure for students.

Patna: The centre distributed 1000 kg rice, 200 kg pulses, 100 litres cooking oil, 200 kg sattu (powdered gram), 100 kg salt and 100 kg glucose among 200 families in Patna from 29 March to 2 April.

Rajkot: The centre distributed 6302 kg rice, 1010 kg wheat, 4837 kg flour, 1670 kg pulses, 110 kg semolina, 50 kg bajra, 2974 kg potatoes, 1128 kg onions, 375 kg assorted spices, 1005 kg salt, 110 kg jaggery, 1440 litres cooking oil, 983 packets of biscuits, 196 kg tea leaves, 1240 kg sugar and 1089 bars of soap among 1166 families and 1500 face masks among the vegetable vendors in Rajkot, Ahmedabad and Kutch districts from 30 March to 27 April.

Jamshedpur: The centre distributed 4165 kg rice, 833 kg pulses, 1716 kg potatoes, 100 kg onions, 50 litres cooking oil, 417 kg salt, 783 packets of detergent powder and 783 bars of soap among 783 families in East Singhbhum district from 31 March to 22 April.

Jamtara: The centre distributed 735 kg pulses, 735 kg potatoes, 630 bottles of cooking oil, 210 kg salt, 210 kg detergent powder and 420 bars of soap among 210 families in Jamtara district from 19 March to 22 April.

Ranchi Morabadi: The centre distributed 6000 leaflets to spread awareness on the pandemic, and also 19,575 kg rice, 3882 kg pulses, 3568 kg potatoes, 112 kg soya chunks, 1500 kg salt, 150 kg assorted spices, 150 litres milk, 4550 bars of soap, 2584 face masks and 530 hand sanitizer bottles among 2168 families in Ranchi district from 28 March to 28 April.

Ranchi T.B. Sanatorium: The centre distributed 3500 kg rice, 1750 kg flour, 350 kg pulses, 850 kg potatoes, 350 kg salt, 350 bars of soap, 350 packets of detergent powder and 60 face masks among 350 families in Ranchi district from 24 March to 15 April. An isolation ward has been set up at the hospital for coronavirus patients.

Davanagere: The centre distributed 155 kg rice, 595 kg jowar (sorghum), 332 kg pulses, 305 kg ragi (a millet), 50 kg chira, 28 kg jaggery, 100 kg sugar, 93 litres cooking oil, 1000 packets of biscuits, 500 pamphlets, 2000 face masks, 500 packets of tissue papers, 500 hand sanitizer bottles and 1000 bars of soap among 753 families in Davanagere from 26 March to 28 April.

Mangalore: The centre conducted awareness campaigns, and distributed 1900 kg rice, 350 kg pulses, 350 kg chira and 350 kg sugar among 232 families in Mangaluru from 16 to 27 April.

Mysuru: The centre served 7650 plates of cooked food and distributed 1988 kg flour, 944 kg pulses, 100 kg fried gram, 944 kg semolina, 100 kg besan (gram flour), 944 litres cooking oil, 944 kg salt, 50 kg jaggery, 3514 packets of biscuits, 236 kg tea leaves, 944 kg sugar, 1114 kg fruits, 6088 bars of soap, 1888 bars of washing soap, 4200 face masks, 2300 hand sanitizer bottles and 480 packets of tissue paper among 944 families in Mysuru district from 26 March to 28 April.

Ponnampet: The centre set up two wards for coronavirus patients, served 1040 plates of cooked food and distributed 950 kg rice, 1306 kg flour, 1216 kg semolina, 5568 kg pulses, 1445 kg potatoes, 1578 pumpkins, 1445 kg onions, 2858 kg salt, 1430 litres cooking oil, 608 kg sambar powder, 2811 packets of biscuits, 1306 kg sugar, 2456 bars of soap, 2211 packets of detergent powder, 55 tubes of toothpaste, 55 toothbrushes, 55 scrubbers and 55 bottles of hair oil among 2882 families in Kodagu district from 29 March to 27 April.

Shivanahalli: The centre served two meals a day to 2500 stranded labourers in the outskirts of Bengaluru from 27 March to 20 April (total 1,57,550 plates of cooked food).

Kayamkulam: The centre distributed 600 kg rice, 250 kg flour, 25 kg pulses, 250 kg onions and 250 kg of salt among 300 families in Alappuzha district on 31 March.

Koyilandy: Thecentre distributed 2210 kg rice, 1210 kg flour, 1432 kg pulses, 910 kg semolina, 120 litres cooking oil, 57 packets of Horlicks, 635 kg sugar and 30 kg assorted spices among 590 families in Kozhikode district from 12 to 18 April.

Kozhikode: The centre is providing board and lodging for 21 stranded daily wagers since 26 March. It also distributed 2045 kg rice, 741 kg rice powder, 386 kg flour, 939 kg pulses, 378 kg semolina, 756 kg salt, 308 kg assorted spices, 370 litres of cooking oil, 1000 kg sugar and 1.5 kg tea leaves among 756 families in Kozhikode district from 13 to 28 April.

Pala: The centre served 1200 plates of cooked food and distributed 105 kg rice, 90 kg flour, 100 kg semolina, 248 kg pulses, 18 kg vegetables, 28 litres cooking oil, 65 kg salt, 90 kg sugar, 10 kg assorted spices, 60 bars of soap, 60 packets of detergent powder, 60 bottles of hair oil, 180 packets of biscuits and 60 towels among 160 families in Kottayam district from 30 March to 9 April.

Thiruvalla: The centre distributed 488 kg vegetables among 75 families in Pathanamthitta district on 13 April.

Thiruvananthapuram: The centre has set up an outpatient clinic for screening Coronavirus patients.

Thrissur: The centre distributed 600 kg pulses, 400 litres cooking oil and 400 kg sugar among 200 families in Thrissur district on 11 and 19 April.

Mumbai:  The centre served 60,800 plates of cooked food, 15,000 water bottles along with bread, fruits and sweets which were given occasionally. The centre supplied 18,000 kg rice, 3000 litres cooking oil and 210 kg assorted spices to a community kitchen and distributed 10,905 kg rice, 10,905 kg flour, 6543 kg pulses, 2181 litres cooking oil, 2181 kg salt and 2181 kg sugar among 2181 families in Mumbai from 28 March to 29 April.

Nagpur: The centre distributed 2100 kg rice, 1200 kg flour, 400 kg pulses, 800 kg potatoes, 800 kg onions, 400 kg semolina, 520 kg assorted spices, 400 litres cooking oil, 400 kg salt, 400 kg sugar, 80 kg tea leaves, 400 packets of biscuits, 400 bars of soap and 200 face masks among 410 families in Nagpur district from 6 to 21 April.

Pune: The centre supplied 8000 N-95 masks to doctors and hospitals in Pune and distributed 3138 kg rice, 6894 kg flour, 2504 kg pulses, 918 kg assorted spices, 733 kg rice flakes, 400 kg semolina, 68 kg potatoes, 125 kg onions, 1321 litres cooking oil, 500 kg groundnut, 1069 kg sugar, 33 kg tea leaves, 140 packets of biscuits, 130 kg detergent powder and 642 bars of soap among 1222 families in Pune and Ahmednagar districts from 31 March to 23 April.

Sohra (Cherrapunji):The centre distributed 7,52,755 kg rice and 1,49,725 kg pulses among 29,945 families at their homes in East Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills, South West Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, North Garo Hills, West Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills districts in Meghalaya, and Dhubri district in Assam from 25 March to 12 April. The centre also distributed 3100 PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) kits and 47,882 face masks and is transporting patients from villages to health centres from 25 March onwards.

Medinipur: The centre distributed 2400 kg rice, 423 kg pulses, 2550 kg potatoes, 160 kg soya chunks, 160 litres cooking oil, 400 kg salt and 1000 packets of detergent soap among 1200 families in Paschim Medinipur district from 30 March to 28 April.

Mekhliganj: The centre distributed 1353 kg rice, 888 kg flour, 222 kg pulses, 888 kg potatoes, 40 kg soya chunks, 222 litres cooking oil, 57 kg turmeric powder, 444 packets of biscuits and 444 bars of soap among 444 families in Cooch Behar district from 5 to 30 April.

Naora: The centre distributed 11,255 kg rice, 424 kg flour, 1374 kg pulses, 5496 kg potatoes, 2198 litres cooking oil and 2198 packets of biscuit among 2251 families in South 24 Parganas district from 31 March to 15 April.

Narendrapur: The centre distributed 45,456 kg rice, 1438 kg flour, 14,953 kg pulses, 28,622 kg potatoes, 17 kg soya chunks, 641 kg salt, 641 kg sugar, 1096 packets of biscuits and 641 bars of soap among 12,976 families in Bankura, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas districts from 30 March to 24 April.

Purulia: The centre distributed 5518 kg rice, 1669 kg flour, 2362 kg pulses, 4658 kg potatoes, 314 kg soya chunks, 329 litres cooking oil, 106 kg turmeric powder, 946 kg salt, 1978 litres milk and 1970 bars of soap among 2279 families in Purulia district from 2 to 25 April.

Rahara: The centre served 6200 plates of cooked food and distributed 9300 kg rice, 1860 kg pulses, 4650 kg potatoes, 3612 packets of biscuits, 223 tubes of toothpaste, 223 toothbrushes, 1351 bottles of hair oil, 434 face masks, 1860 bars of soap and 11 litres hand sanitizer solution among 1860 families in North 24 Parganas district from 27 March to 26 April.

Rajarhat Bishnupur: The centre served 2700 plates of cooked food and distributed 4285 kg rice, 900 kg pulses, 2400 kg potatoes, 150 kg soya chunks, 900 kg salt, 300 litres cooking oil, 600 kg sugar, 77 face masks and 677 bars of soap among 977 families in North 24 Parganas district from 2 to 26 April.

Ramharipur: The centre distributed 24,000 kg rice, 1716 kg pulses, 8550 kg potatoes and 2000 kg salt among 4327 families in Bankura district from 4 to 21 April.  The centre is also distributing 50 litres milk among 200 poor children from 24 March onwards.

Saradapitha: The centre conducted awareness drives, served 102 plates of cooked food and distributed 21,946 kg rice, 2604 kg oats, 5791 kg pulses, 17,194kg potatoes, 1141 kg soya chunks, 434 kg pumpkin, 9577 kg onions, 2749 litres cooking oil, 3617 kg salt, 1855 kg assorted spices, 600 packets of milk, 674 kg sugar, 18,136 packets of biscuits, 400 packets of potato chips, 100 loaves of bread, 18,792 bars of soap, 23,846 face masks and 2848 hand sanitizer bottles among 8078 families in Hooghly, Howrah, Nadia, North 24 Parganas and Paschim Medinipur districts from 27 March to 28 April.

Sarisha: The centre served 79,028 plates of cooked food and distributed 4902 bars of soap, 2294 packets of detergent powder and 250 face masks among 2602 families in South 24 Parganas district from 2 to 29 April.

Sargachhi: The centre distributed 7115 kg rice, 650 kg pulses, 5200 kg potatoes, 325 bars of soap and 450 face masks among 2300 families, 300 kg rice among 30 old persons and milk to 100 children in Sargachhi from 25 March to 21 April.

Seva Pratishthan: An isolation unit is being set up at the hospital for coronavirus patients.

Shyampukur Bati: The centre distributed 100 kg milk powder, 350 packets of biscuits, 350 face masks, 150 kg detergent powder and 300 bars of soap among 350 persons, and 166 kg rice, 45 kg pulses, 35 kg potatoes and 100 packets of biscuits among 100 families at a slum in Kolkata on 8 and 21 April.

Shyamsayer Bardhaman: The centre distributed 1200 kg rice, 12 kg pulses, 600 kg potatoes, 140 kg soya chunks, 140 kg salt, 24 kg assorted spices, 140 litres cooking oil, 140 kg muri, 280 packets of biscuits, 240 bars of soap and 250 face masks among 240 families in Bardhaman district from 10 to 15 April.

Sikra Kulingram: The centre distributed 2486 kg rice, 190 kg pulses, 250 kg potatoes, 20 kg soya chunks, 100 bars of soap and 100 face masks among 704 families in North 24 Parganas district from 5 to 28 April.

Sinthi (Beni Pal Udyan): The centre distributed 500 kg rice, 120 kg flour, 213 kg pulses, 400 kg potatoes, 105 kg salt, 32 litres cooking oil, 170 bars of soap and 200 face masks among 255 families in Kolkata from 5 to 9 April.

Swamiji’s Ancestral House, Kolkata: The distributed 6050 kg rice, 1400 kg pulses, 2150 kg potatoes, 95 kg soya chunks, 1405 kg salt, 680 kg sugar, 1464 packets of biscuit and 1950 bars of soap among 1420 families in Kolkata from 2 to 19 April.

Mymensingh: The centre distributed 1005 kg rice, 402 kg pulses, 402 kg potatoes, 201 kg salt, 100 litres of cooking oil and 603 bars of soap among 201 families in Mymensingh district from 4 to 12 April.
