COVID-19  PANDEMIC  Relief  Services : A Brief Report as on  1 July 2020

Following the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the imposition of lockdown in India, millions of people were pushed to the brink of hunger and starvation.  The Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission started relief work almost from the beginning of the crisis, bringing succour to the afflicted people.  A consolidated report of the work conducted by the headquarters and 147 branch centres spread over 26 states/union territories in India, and also by our centres in five other countries is given below.

Kadapa centre served 1085 plates of cooked food and distributed 4666 kg rice, 200 kg flour, 30 kg semolina, 1927 kg pulses, 1615 litres cooking oil, 90 kg salt, 1212 kg assorted spices, 98 kg pickles, 402 kg sugar, 500 bananas, 2162 litres buttermilk, 300 packets of drinking water and 30 litres of handwash among 1723 families in Kadapa district from 28 March to 25 May.

Rajamahendravaram centre distributed 4150 kg rice, 726 kg pulses, 306 litres cooking oil, 306 kg salt, 288 kg assorted spices, 10 kg tea leaves, 100 kg sugar, 153 kg jaggery, 200 packets of biscuits and 150 bars of soap among 306 families in East Godavari district from 12 to 31 May.

Tirupati centre served 6710 plates of cooked food and distributed 175 kg rice, 350 kg flour, 105 kg semolina, 105 kg pulses, 70 kg potatoes, 70 kg onions, 70 kg tomatoes, 75 litres cooking oil, 105 kg salt and 105 kg sugar among 105 families in Chittoor district and also 2600 bananas, 150 towels, 20 saris, 128 lungis and 1000 face masks to affected people in that district from 1 April to 28 May.

Vijayawada centre distributed 2206 kg rice, 678 kg flour, 50 kg semolina, 645 kg potatoes, 697 kg pulses, 688 kg onions, 166 kg other vegetables, 366 litres cooking oil, 13 kg pickles, 331 kg salt, 40 kg chilli powder, 3955 face masks and 300 gloves among 2670 families in Guntur district from 30 March to 25 May.

Visakhapatnam centre distributed 17,420 kg rice, 1388 kg pulses, 1522 kg potatoes, 72 kg onions, 100 kg tomatoes, 5267 kg other vegetables, 42 kg meal maker, 353 kg assorted spices, 1122 kg salt, 1493 litres cooking oil, 292 kg sugar, 1450 packets of biscuits, 700 water bottles and 800 packets of a health drink among 1748 families in Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam districts, and also 800 hand sanitizer bottles, 200 gloves, 1100 face masks, 570 packets of dish washing powder and 570 bars of soap to affected people from 29 March to 19 May.

Silchar centre distributed 41,480 kg rice, 8296 kg pulses, 11,994 kg potatoes, 575 kg soya chunks, 6174 kg salt, 1659 litres cooking oil, and 8296 bars of soap among 8296 families in Cachar district from 3 April to 20 June.

Chapra centre distributed distributed 12,250 kg rice, 1365 kg flour, 1200 kg chira (rice flakes), 1385 kg pulses, 3310 kg potatoes, 297 kg jaggery, 1212 litres cooking oil and 1000 bars of soap among 4283 families of Saran district from 7 April to 17 June.

Ranchi Morabadi centre distributed 6000 leaflets to spread awareness on the pandemic, and also 20,015 kg rice, 4626 kg pulses, 3640 kg potatoes, 140 kg soya chunks, 1500 kg salt, 150 kg turmeric powder, 127 litres milk, 5025 bars of soap, 4015 face masks, 100 litres hand sanitizer and 3634 kg sowing seeds among 3622 families in Ranchi district from 28 March to 22 June. The centre also distributed 660 bottles of arsenic album-30 among 660 families for increasing the immunity against COVID-19.

Ranchi T.B. Sanatorium  distributed 6175 kg rice, 2905 kg flour, 670 kg pulses, 1450 kg potatoes, 30 kg soya chunks, 116 litres of cooking oil, 610 kg salt, 669 bars of soap, 621 packets of detergent powder, 100 bars of detergent and 150 face masks among 630 families in Ranchi district from 24 March to 31 May.

KARNATAKA

Belagavi centre distributed 355 kg rice, 335 kg jowar (sorghum), 561 kg flour, 188 kg semolina, 216 kg pulses, 10 kg vegetables, 22 kg assorted spices, 199 litres cooking oil, 154 kg sugar, 19 kg tea leaves and 358 bars of soap among 122 families in Belagavi district and also 7000 face masks and 3400 hand sanitizer bottles to the needy from 2 April to 23 May.

Thrissur centre distributed 600 kg pulses, 400 litres cooking oil and 400 kg sugar among 200 families in Thrissur district on 11 and 19 April.

Bhopal centre distributed 1000 kg rice, 1000 kg flour, 400 kg chira, 400 kg pulses, 200 kg soya chunks, 200 litres cooking oil, 200 kg salt, 200 kg sugar and 75 kg detergent powder among 200 families in Bhopal from 24 to 28 May.

Indore centre distributed 300 kg rice, 500 kg flour and 210 kg pulses among 40 families in Indore on 7 April.

MAHARASHTRA

Aurangabad centre distributed 4656 kg flour, 235 litres cooking oil, 118 kg assorted spices, 850 packets of biscuits, 300 packets of buttermilk, 1354 face masks and 970 bars of soap among 2027 families in Aurangabad district from 1 April to 27 May.

Mumbai centre served 85,000 plates of cooked food, 65,000 water bottles, 860 litres buttermilk, 4800 bananas, 1400 sweet buns and 3024 packets of biscuits and distributed 39,416 kg rice, 38,400 kg flour, 22,960 kg pulses, 364 kg assorted spices, 7934 litres cooking oil, 7853 kg sugar, 10,205 kg salt, 150 kg semolina, 103 kg tea leaves, 685 kg vegetables and 1700 bars of soap among 10,230 families in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar districts from 28 March to 28 May. The centre also supplied 18,000 kg rice, 3000 litres cooking oil and 210 kg assorted spices to a community kitchen in Thane district from 14 to 18 April.

Nagpur centre distributed 2100 kg rice, 1200 kg flour, 400 kg pulses, 800 kg potatoes, 800 kg onions, 400 kg semolina, 520 kg assorted spices, 400 litres cooking oil, 400 kg salt, 400 kg sugar, 80 kg tea leaves, 400 packets of biscuits, 400 bars of soap and 200 face masks among 410 families in Nagpur district from 6 to 21 April.

MANIPUR

Imphal centre distributed 17,000 kg rice, 4080 kg pulses, 1000 kg of soya chunks, 2273 litres cooking oil, 400 kg salt, 1218 tubes of toothpaste, 3767 packets of detergent powder and 7534 bars of soap among 4145 families in Kakching, Ukhrul, Bishnupur, Kangpokpi and Imphal West districts from 20 April to 2 June.

MEGHALAYA

Shillong centre distributed 18,465 kg rice, 10,165 kg potatoes, 1798 kg pulses and 1727 face masks among 3693 families in East Khasi Hills district from 1 April to 28 May.

Sohra (Cherrapunji): The centre supplied (a) 9,36,000 kg rice and 1,87,200 kg pulses to 37,440 families at their homes in nine districts of Meghalaya and two districts of Assam from 25 March to 25 May, and (b) 3500 PPE kits to several community health centres and public health centres in six districts of Meghalaya and 48021 face masks to the needy at different places in Meghalaya. In the quarantine facility at the centre, 28 people were provided with food and medical check-up for two weeks.  Further, the centre treated 1243 patients in medical camps and 1430 patients through its mobile medical service in different parts of Meghalaya.

NEW DELHI

New Delhi centre (a) served 86,774 plates of cooked food among the poor and needy in Delhi from 26 March to 31 May, and (b) distributed packets of snacks, mineral water and ORS packets to 26,976 migrant labourers from 28 May to 14 June.

ODISHA

Bhubaneswar centre distributed 6000 kg rice, 300 kg flour, 1800 kg pulses, 3000 kg potatoes, 600 kg soya chunks, 1200 kg onions, 600 litres cooking oil, 900 kg salt, 700 face masks and 1200 bars of soap among 600 families in Khurda district from 11 April to 8 May.

Cuttack centre distributed 2800 kg rice, 100 kg chira (rice flakes), 700 kg pulses, 1100 kg potatoes, 735 kg onions, 77 kg assorted spices, 400 kg salt, 206 litres cooking oil, 800 packets of biscuits, 50 kg sugar, 100 packets of detergent powder, 700 bars of soap and 200 face masks among 400 families in Cuttack district from 18 to 30 April.

Puri Math distributed 200 kg rice, 750 kg flour, 170 kg pulses, 800 kg potatoes, 20 kg soya chunks, 85 litres cooking oil, 170 kg salt, 150 packets of biscuits and 150 bars of soap among 151 families in Puri district from 17 April to 31 May.

Puri Mission centre distributed 5000 kg rice, 1000 kg flour, 1000 kg pulses, 2050 kg potatoes, 1065 kg onions, 200 kg assorted spices, 500 kg salt, 501 litres cooking oil, 1000 packets of biscuits and 2160 bars of soap among 1000 families in Puri district from 10 April to 17 May.

RAJASTHAN

Jaipur centre distributed 186 kg rice, 465 kg flour, 186 kg pulses, 93 kg salt, 93 litres cooking oil, 28 kg assorted spices, 93 packets of detergent powder and 93 bars of soap among 93 families in Jaipur on 5 April.

Khetri centre distributed 1697 sets of shirts and trousers among an equal number of migrant labourers in June.

TAMIL NADU

Chengalpattu centre served 1950 plates of cooked food and distributed 6780 kg rice, 40 kg flour, 455 kg semolina, 99 kg vermicelli, 709 kg pulses, 767 litres cooking oil, 884 kg salt, 751 kg assorted spices and 200 kg sugar among 2014 families in Chengalpattu district from 9 April to 28 June.

Manila centre distributed 8650 kg rice, 1025 kg pulses, 275 cans of Glucon‑D, 100 bottles of hand sanitizer and 150 face masks among 3315 people in April and May.

SINGAPORE 

Singapore centre served 32,514 plates of cooked food and distributed 105 kg muri, 55 kg dates, 755 packets of snacks, 475 packets of biscuits, 68 kg milk powder, 35 kg energy powder, 2545 sachets of coffee powder, 80 kg detergent powder, 24 bottles of shampoo, 785 bars of soap, 500 sanitary kits (each kit containing a towel, a toothbrush, a tube of toothpaste, a soap bar, a bottle of shampoo, a bottle of hand sanitizer, a packet of shaving blades, a pair of slippers, a shirt, and a pair of trousers) among the poor and needy from 14 April to 31 May. The centre also distributed food ration among 73 migrant workers in the above period.

Durban centre along with its sub-centres distributed 5180 kg rice, 2590 kg pulse, 2590 kg maize meal, 5180 kg noodles, 1295 kg macaroni, 2590 packets of soup, 5180 kg baked beans, 259 kg assorted spices, 1295 kg sugar, 1295 kg salt, 1943 litres cooking oil, 259 tea bags, 2590 bars of soap, flour and porridge at various places from April to June.

Phoenix centre distributed 2950 kg rice, 387.5 kg maize meal, 175 kg fortified cereal, 107 kg porridge, 500 kg pulses, 75 kg soya chunks, 2421 kg potatoes, 1950 kg onions, 983 kg other vegetables, 145 kg assorted spices, 500 kg salt, 1385 litres of cooking oil, 950 cans tinned food, 180 kg noodles, 75 kg soup powder, 324 litres milk, 75 kg jam, 70,000 tea bags, 420 kg sugar, 256 kg oranges, 255 kg biscuits, 650 matchboxes, 1160 bars of soap, 150 tubes of toothpaste, 1150 face masks, 100 sanitary pads, 600 adult napkins and 100 blankets from April to June. The centre also distributed a litre of milk and a loaf of bread to 20 families thrice a week, and LP gas and gas stoves to 7 families. It provided and installed 5 2500 litres rain water harvesting tanks. Further, the centre’s clinic provided counselling service to healthcare professionals and workers.

ZAMBIA

Lusaka centre handed over 200 bottles of hand sanitizer to the Epilepsy Association of Zambia and distributed 2500 kg maize powder, 50 kg salt, 75 litres cooking oil, 200 kg sugar and 300 bars of soap among 100 families in Lusaka in April and May.
