Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math

Personalia

Revered President Maharaj is in Madurai and will return to Belur Math on 7 June after visiting Ramanathapuram, Rameshwaram and Chennai. Thereafter, he will be visiting Kankurgachhi Math on 28 and 29 June.

Swami Suhitanandaji is in Switzerland. He is scheduled to return to Belur Math on 30 June after visiting England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Delhi and Kankhal.

Swami Bhajananandaji is in Vrindavan.

Swami Girishanandaji is in Chandipur and will return to Belur Math on 13 June after visiting Contai. Subsequently, he will visit Antpur, Durgapur, Deoghar and Asansol from 16 to 27 June.

Swami Divyanandaji is in Russia and will return to Kolkata on 5 June after visiting Delhi. He will visit Sarisha on 12 and 13 June, and Narendrapur from 17 to 22 June.

Swami Vimalatmanandaji will visit Kamarpukur, Jayrambati and Ghatal from 7 to 26 June. All of them are keeping well.

Headquarters

The 130th Foundation Day of the Ramakrishna Mission was celebrated at Belur Math on 1 May. Revered President Maharaj chaired the programme and gave a benedictory address. Swami Girishanandaji and about 400 other monks and devotees attended the programme.

Revered President Maharaj inaugurated Ma Sarada Bhavan, a six-storey guest house, opposite the Belur Math post office, on 16 May, the sacred Phalaharini Puja day, in the presence of Swamis Suhitanandaji, Girishanandaji, Vimalatmanandaji and many monastic brothers and devotees.

Sri Suvendu Adhikari, Chief Minister of West Bengal, visited Belur Math on 21 May. Sri Sujoy Paul, Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, visited Belur Math on 29 May.

News of Branch Centres in India

On 1 May, the sacred day of Buddha Purnima, Swami Suhitanandaji dedicated Sri Ramakrishna Sadhan Peetha, a memorial-cum-meditation hall, at the Budhui Morol cremation ground in Kamarpukur. In his younger days, Sri Ramakrishna would often meditate under a banyan tree there.

Sri Manoj Kumar Gupta, Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court, visited Advaita Ashrama, Mayavati, on 2 May.

Revered President Maharaj consecrated the new hostel building at Narottam Nagar centre, named Abhedananda Bhavan, on 3 May. Sri Chowna Mein, Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, formally inaugurated the building on 4 May.

Revered President Maharaj dedicated the newly built monks’ quarters, named Premananda Bhavan, at Dibrugarh centre on 8 May.

Belagavi ashrama held the concluding function of its silver jubilee (2000-2025) with a three-day programme comprising special worship, spiritual discourses and cultural programmes from 8 to 10 May. Swami Suhitanandaji inaugurated an exhibition on Swami Vivekananda on 9 May. Many monks and over a thousand devotees attended the programme.

An international conference on Bharatiya Samskriti (Indian culture) was held at Delhi centre, in collaboration with another organization, on 18 May. Over 400 monks representing different sects and traditions attended the event.

Revered President Maharaj inaugurated the monks’ quarters, named Swami Ramakrishnananda Illam, and a multipurpose hall at Thirumukkudal centre on 27 May.

Swami Suhitanandaji opened the renovated office at Gurap centre on 26 April.

Swami Suhitanandaji laid the foundation stone for the proposed monks’ quarters at Goa centre on 11 May. Dr Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa; Sri Shripad Naik, Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy; and other dignitaries took part in the event.

Seva Pratishthan and Vrindavan centres observed International Nurses Day on 12 May.

Revered President Maharaj inaugurated the new welcome gate at Chennai Students’ Home on 28 May.

Other Programmes: The following centres held various programmes mentioned against their names:

Basavanagudi, Bengaluru: Two youths’ awareness programmes on 13 and 16 May, in which a total of 275 students took part.

Dhaleswar, Agartala: A values education camp on 10 May, in which 225 teachers from 35 institutions participated.

Gurugram: (i) Eighteen values education workshops for teachers, principals, professionals and youths in different parts of the country from 8 April to 23 May, in which a total of 293 people were in attendance. (ii) Six online values education programmes from 24 April to 16 May, in which altogether 205 teachers and professionals took part.

Konampatti: A values education camp on 21 May, in which 47 teachers from a local school participated.

Narottam Nagar: A youths’ convention on 5 May, in which 400 youths took part.

Rajamahendravaram: A values education programme on 3 May, in which 90 parents were in attendance.

Silchar: A two-day values education camp on 16 and 17 May, in which a total of 413 students and 78 teachers took part.

Thanjavur: A values education programme on 16 May, in which 100 teachers from a nearby school participated.

Yadadri Bhuvanagiri: A motivational programme on 26 April, in which 75 youths took part.

Eye Camps and other Healthcare Services

The following centres conducted medical camps. A summary of the services provided by them is given below.

India:

Balurghat: A cleft lip and palate camp in association with another organization on 24 May, in which 15 patients were examined.

Barisha, Kolkata: An eye camp in collaboration with an eye hospital on 25 May, in which 59 patients were treated.

Chennai Math: An eye camp in Chengalpattu district, with the help of Chengalpattu centre, on 26 April, in which 79 patients were screened; subsequently, 38 were given free spectacles and 5 underwent cataract surgery at an eye hospital in Chennai.

Coimbatore Mission: Five medical camps (1 dental, 1 orthopaedic, 1 ENT and 2 general) in rural and tribal areas of Coimbatore district from 10 to 24 May, in which a total of 232 patients were treated.

Dhaleswar, Agartala: Two medical camps at West Tripura district on 9 and 23 May, in which a total of 220 patients were treated.

Digboi: A medical camp on 26 April, in which 32 patients were treated.

Itanagar: (i) A medical camp on 19 April, through which 71 patients benefitted. (ii) An eye camp on 29 April at a nearby place, in which 170 patients were screened; subsequently, 10 underwent cataract surgery at the centre’s hospital. (iii) Six blood donation camps from 5 April to 24 May, in which altogether 127 units of blood were collected.

Jammu: Two medical camps on 17 April and 23 May, in which a total of 376 patients were treated.

Jamshedpur: An eye camp on 22 March, in which 31 patients were screened; 25 of them underwent cataract surgery at a nearby hospital.

Khetri: Two eye camps on 26 April and 24 May, in which altogether 203 patients were screened; 100 underwent cataract surgery at an eye hospital in Jaipur.

Konampatti: (i) Four medical camps from 3 to 24 May, in which a total of 161 patients were treated. (ii) An eye camp in association with an eye hospital on 24 May, in which 46 patients were screened; of them, 12 underwent cataract surgery in the hospital, and 12 were given spectacles.

Lucknow: Eye camps in April: 3285 patients were examined, of whom 427 underwent cataract surgery and received spectacles.

Madurai: An eye camp on 17 May, in which 165 patients were screened. Of them, 36 were operated on for cataract in an eye hospital, and 34 were given spectacles.

Manasadwip: (i) Conducted three eye camps from March to May, in which altogether 257 patients were treated. (ii) Arranged cataract surgery at an eye hospital for a total of 37 patients from March to May.

Nattarampalli: An eye camp on 17 May: 253 patients were checked; subsequently, 102 were operated on for cataract in an eye hospital, and 48 were given spectacles.

Porbandar: An eye camp on 8 May, where 20 patients were checked; later on, 8 were operated on for cataract in an eye hospital.

Ranchi Morabadi: Eye camps from 21 April to 21 May: 189 patients were checked, and 4 underwent cataract surgery.

Salem: Two eye camps at nearby places on 3 and 17 May: in all, 210 patients were checked; 81 of them were operated on for cataract in a local eye hospital, and 29 were given spectacles.

Silchar: An eye camp at a nearby place on 14 May: 149 patients were checked; subsequently, 21 were operated on for cataract in an eye hospital.

Thanjavur: A medical camp on 17 May, in which 94 patients were treated.

Varanasi Home of Service: Medical camps in three districts of Uttar Pradesh and one district of Uttarakhand in April, benefiting a total of 806 patients.

Viveknagar, Agartala: (i) Three medical camps from 12 April to 10 May at Gomati and West Tripura districts, in which a total of 150 patients were treated. (ii) A dental cum health awareness camp on 20 May at Gomati district, by which 60 patients benefitted.

Outside India:

Batticaloa (a sub-centre of Colombo branch), Sri Lanka: Medical camps at Kiran, Sittandy and Kudumimalai in May, in which altogether 784 patients received medical aid.

Durban, South Africa: A medical camp on 24 May, in which 410 patients were treated.
